In Alzheimer's/Dementia, sufferers have immense trouble with memories much past their teens and twenties and get the most enjoyment reminiscing with memories and items from their childhoods. Memories from the oldest parts of their consciousness, the ones not yet touched by the scarring plaques of these afflictions.
They get angry and defensive when presented with things from more recent years, the last decade especially. They know something is wrong and want desperately for it to go away.
Their only solace, their drug of choice, is to stay in the shallow end of their memory "pool", when they were children and adults took care of the daily chores of life and responsibility.
Bring them around to conversations and items from the present day and their brows furrow and they look like they are in fight or flight mode.
It is most likely why Biden is so confrontational with voters and people with pointed questions that require current common knowledge/politics/cultural cues.

One of them, the only way to calm them down was to bring in case of Budweiser, in an actual cardboard case, warm like they had during Vietnam and open each one as they asked for another, so that they would not have to figure out where the pull tab "went".
Usually the conversation was light and joking but occasionally it would get very dark and you could see their eyes moisten. That was when I knew it was time to let them get some "rack time" while making sure nothing was around that could hurt them if the nightmares came.
I once asked why they wanted the beer warm and they said, "What do I look like an 'effin officer or something?"
Showed them Steve1989 on YouTube and him eating old military rations and all I got was, "Those old C Rats are going to kill that hippie."
I guess when it is my time I will be boring my robot nurse about N'Sync versus 98 Degrees and old 'Saved by the Bell' episodes. ; P
