Favorite city is New Orleans. It's unlike anywhere else in America. It's a small city packed full of interesting history, delicious food, music everywhere and people dance in the streets. It's always my first suggestion. It's a dangerous city but it's amazing.
Black Hills national forest in S. Dakota is beautiful. The entire area is full of beautiful natural sites.
The top of New Mexico is unique. Lots of plateaus and interesting looking geography. The bad lands of Texas are neat too.
Des Moines Iowa has a ton of outdoor sculptures. St. Louis is neat. Lots of free museums and the arch. Chattanooga TN is beautiful. Lots of interesting geography and beautiful views. Nashville has grown exponentially and changed a ton. If you're into country music, that's the city for you. Grand Ole Opry is there. Traffic sucks almost as bad as Atlanta now tho.
Whatever you do, stay away from Ohio. That place sucks like a desperate hooker.
