3481 To this point, and because we have had a very strong border policy, we have had 40 deaths related to CoronaVirus. If we had weak or open borders, that number would be many times higher! The data indicates that the state of Washington will peak in the next week. If my predictions are correct, when all of this is said and done, there will be about 75-100 deaths from Covid 19 in the state of Washington. To put that in perspective, you're far more likely to die driving to work that you are to die from Covid. The media is being wildly irresponsible with it's fearmongering. Do the restrictions China put in place, like stopping anyone going outside, affect the shape? Is it possible without those restrictions it would have been worse? permalink parent save report block reply ▲ 1 ▼ – Not_My_Real_Acct_ 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0 As I understand it, restrictions on travel and social distancing will "flatten the curve." For the United States, the main thing that we have going for us is that we don't smoke. The residents of China, Iran and Italy smoke like crazy. That's really bad for someone with a respiratory condition. Basically a lifetime of smoking can reduce your lung capacity. And if you get a respiratory illness, that pre-existing condition can be fatal for you. permalink parent save report block reply
