I’m in IL and our Governor, in his infinite wisdom, has just banned gatherings of 1000 or more people for 30 days, and said the state will “break up” gatherings of anyone who tries to defy the order. HOW IS THIS CONSTITUTIONAL? They’re not closing schools but are expecting that churches of >1000 in attendance close.
For reference:
“I am not going to hesitate to take the most aggressive steps necessary to protect the public health,” Pritzker declared, saying police will break up large gatherings if need be if they are improperly held. “We need to reduce social contact in order to reduce the spread of the virus.”

Probably isnt, he could declare state of emergency in which he has a lot of leeway, Then of course any overstep would have to work its way through courts. They can do this shit for a long time. States of emergency give governors a lot of power, they cannot do it as easily at the federal level, but at state level, different constitutional issues.
