I'm trying to piece this chess move together...so we didn't buy American...we bought foriegn, but at extremely low prices...increasing the demand...but not domestically, because those reserves will take years to refine (fuck the Canada pipeline on a side note for a while). On it's surface, not buying American was not patriotic, not helpful, but as I dig deeper, it seems to be a lifeline...as prices globally increase...my head hurts.
Prices won't increase enough to make domestic production viable for a while. Buying up the supply is the best way to raise the price back up to something reasonable, but this was probably not enough to bail Russia out.
It's always a risk; if the price would've continued to fall, it could've been bought a little cheaper. A very good use of funds either way. This was a genius move!
