The coronavirus doesn't worry me. What worries me is the mass hysteria it's causing. I can't afford to not go to work, it's a small firm with only five employees. We don't receive any benefits or catastrophe pay. Fuck the left and everyone creating mass hysteria, scaring the shit out of people and forcing employers to tell everyone to stay home.

I'm more concerned with the over-reaction to this. It's a very contagious virus. So we shut most the economy down for a month or two. Okay but people will still have it. It only takes a few people for this thing to start spreading again. We can't keep the economy like this until every last person is recovered, it's just not realistic.

I think we're going to see the countries where it ran it's course will recover faster and get back to the normal ways of living. I'm afraid we're over-reacting and are going to have to fear this thing for 6+ months, because it's not gonna disappear anytime soon.

There's ways we can run everything as normal and let this thing run it's course while still being smart and keeping spread to a minimum. Hiding from it is only going to delay when it spreads and we're not expected to have a vaccine for a year and that's best case scenario.

The fact of the matter is this is a very contagious virus and people are going to die. Hiding from it doesn't stop that, it just delays the inevitable.

I don't know, I hope to God I'm wrong because if this lasts for longer than a few months it's going to have a huge affect on the election. But not only that the economy will take years to recover from being neutered for 6+ months

No this is false. Corona virus is not the flu it will not be affected by seasonal shit. Remember that. I work In healthcare. Where I can agree and appreciate the not spreading panic. Don’t let your guard down. Stay vigilant

17
KM4JNW 17 points ago +17 / -0

We believe this virus will respond seasonally. This virus has been studied by over 30 countries. They have all concluded that COVID-19 and it's 2 major strains are very sensitive to UV-C light (254 nanometers) and even 'UV-C Far' (222 nanometers). This means that it is also very sensitive to sunlight. As daytime/sunlight increases in the northern hemisphere day by day it will neutralize the virus in the air and on surfaces. It also doesn't do well in hotter/humid environments. I don't have much more info on why. I wish they would publish these findings somewhere easier to find.

Kekception 4 points ago +4 / -0

I appreciate you sharing this with me. Very interesting. I’m hoping I’m wrong and this shit blow over fast. I’m not worried about having to swallow my pride and admit I’m wrong. I’ll look forward to doing it if the time comes. But for now I’m ready either way. I have a family to look out for. And fellow pedes to take care of

9
Cman 9 points ago +9 / -0

I have read studies that show the virus is way less infectious when subjected to heat. In some instances it’s only living on warm surfaces for up to 3 mins. Is this not true? I’m genuinely asking, not trying to be a dick

2
Kekception 2 points ago +4 / -2

No worries. All concerns are valid. We stick together. Hard part is I don’t know where the truth lies. Always good to just be mindful.

So is there any word if steam has any effect on it? (for Home sanitation?)_

1
ADAM_SCHITT 1 point ago +1 / -0

How do you know that? There are many types of corona virus that just cause the common cold, which is seasonal. Why is this one different?

1
Kekception 1 point ago +1 / -0

I believe this one is bio engineered. Just my opinion

The US economy isn't being shut down. There will be some inconvenience, but it's not being shut down.

Italy is shut down, because they ignored the problem until it got out of control. Spain is close. France is close. Lithuania may be imposing a 15 day quarantine on everyone.

By doing this now, we hope to avoid the need for complete shutdown.

1
ADAM_SCHITT 1 point ago +1 / -0

I was thinking the same thing.

13
DisgustedByMisleadia 13 points ago +13 / -0

Unfortunately, the "emergency" bill passed by the House has been loaded up with pet pvovisions by the Democrats.

I think one of them requires you (as a small business owner) to pay sick pay after 14 days if someone cannot work due to coronavirus infection (themselves or someone they care for). It's only for employers with 1-499 employees!

I can't find it again quickly. If I find it later, I'll followup.

5
shitposter1776 5 points ago +5 / -0

I know Trump basically shamed Pelosi into taking out the abortion funding from the bill, but which of the demcraps' pork didn't get cut out?

3
DisgustedByMisleadia 3 points ago +3 / -0

Not all of it. From what I've read, the abortion funding was one of the ONLY things that got removed.

This goes to the Senate next week. We'll see what happens.

5
Hawkman 5 points ago +5 / -0

So it’s ONLY for small businesses? Wtf.

2
ImWithHurrDurr 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is mostly true. The employer has to pay for up to 14 days of paid sick leave at 2/3 of the employees salary. That entire amount can be written off as a tax credit for the business (100% credit) the following tax filing. There are some upper level limits for employees making over $300K per year though.

1
DisgustedByMisleadia 1 point ago +1 / -0

Thanks for the clarification. The article I read about this wasn't clear on the details, and I haven't been able to find it again.

The writeoff as a tax credit blunts the impact on small business, although they would have to find the cash before the end of their fiscal year. It might be hard for an undercapitalized business that is already struggling.

Fear is the disease

3
lerm4comptroller 3 points ago +3 / -0

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will allow it to pass over me and through me and when it has gone past I will turn my inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

It's good to have a hot toddy (or 4!) when you get the flu. May not heal ya, but at least you won't give a damn about it lol

6
Thrasymachus 6 points ago +6 / -0

The running joke re: North Korea is that their infection count ticks from one to zero, over and over, as they execute anyone infected. I imagine a line of people prepared to shoot the prior guy, who shot the prior guy, who shot the prior guy, and so on.

2
Barbalinski20 2 points ago +2 / -0

With the malnourished and poor health care status of their people, and the closeness to China and South Korea, I doubt they are untouched. My guess is they have been hit hard but since the government has total control over everything, more likely no news is allowed to get out that reports on their status.

I had little mice living under my house, and I bought a huge stack of N95 masks to wear when I was cleaning up their droppings in the basement. But when the droppings came back after one cleanup, I realized I needed professional help and had the house sealed up, the last few mice stuck inside starved out and got trapped.

And I ended up with dozens of N95 masks to stash away for, I dunno, a global virus outbreak! Thanks mice, sorry you had to find a new house to nibble at.

I also sympathize with your OCD challenges. My daily battle is not turning around halfway driving anywhere to return and check the stovetop. Just a mental image of a burner just merrily burning away at nothing, even though I know the damn thing is off, is enough to set my mind racing. Dumb!

It is really rediculous. I was in NYC this week, the people (libs) are hysterical and the crime is up through the roof. Got ripped off in broad daylight. Didn't even see the crimal junkie grab our bags out of the front seat in SOHO. This is the commie William Wilhelm (De Blasio in disguise) and his bullshit.

Look man, I was in Iraq in 2003-2004. Came back with Malaria, type 3. Guys had Leishmeniasis, (flesh eating sand fleas that have to be treated with chemo at Walter Reed), and exotic shit from the shithole desert.

The fuckin FLU, is no big deal, bit media and politics have sent the normies into a fuckin apoplectic hysteria. Old people, ok, don't get this bio-weapon flu. Everybody else?? Calm the fuck down. BTW, it's gonna be all over in 2 weeks.

Another Lib Demo fail. What's next? They going to try to start a Nike war? Maybe AYYYYS LMAO next?

Stay strong, don't fret....

Costco was very empty today. I mentioned it to an employeeand they said since the water an toilet paper ran out it slowed way down. I shopped in peace. Fear free.

3
Potomato 3 points ago +3 / -0

I work in the medical field and see many elderly people in there homes with lung issues already, they asked us to wear gloves and sanitize as we do anyway, but my fear is not catching it, it’s catching it and spreading to those already at risk. Our job has said nothing about what to do if we feel sick and I’m likely to catch it since I’m in and out of hospitals, clinics and homes all day. I work 50 plus hours a week and honestly They would not want me quarantined.

2
HocusLocus 2 points ago +2 / -0

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

I've been trying to give advice to far away family members, perhaps more direct than most. To my at-risk father: "Your job is to get this thing and get over it, because it is like a tsunami that will wash back and forth across the country for years and those who carry it to you are blameless and human. You need to prepare to 'expectorate' like you have never done before, chest horizontal and head down over a plastic bin, coughing up and spitting out completely in one go, then coming up to breathe. Bringing a bit up at a time and swallowing it like people often do may not save your life, and may even claim the lives of others who are not mentally preparing themselves to do what I am suggesting. Plan to do it alone, no nurses or family or friends near at hand because it will likely happen when you are alone... it is like looking at churning waters and preparing for a shock, to swim, rise to the surface and survive."
