So many people I know were sick in late Jan/early Feb with "killer colds" as my friend described it. When I talked to her on the phone I encouraged her to go to the Dr and get antibiotics because she always ends up with bronchitis or something every time she gets the sniffles. She didn't, but the illness spread through her workplace. Everyone there is fairly young and travels a lot so though it could have actually been a "killer cold" that didn't kill anyone it also could have been something more. We'll never know.
