I've even got proof: their two frontrunners. Every Democrat I know was expecting literally anyone but Sanders or Biden. If the on-the-ground Democrats had paid any attention, neither Sanders nor Biden would be there. Not only are they not paying attention, they completely checked out and were just waiting to be basically handed a candidate that "will surely stop drumpf." Almost like they figure their voice doesn't really matter in the DNC primary. Huh.
So handing them a shitty candidate after a primary that they didn't pay attention to isn't going to "exhaust" them. Then put the Hilldawg on that shit sandwich, and booooy they're fucked in the general.
