Not true! Delivery of Hillary's discarded new book should arrive shortly!

Welcome. Have a coat, bots coming soon

23
Bluestorm83 23 points ago +23 / -0

We're pioneers here, still. We have to hunt and kill our own coats. Bricks must be farmed by the sweat of a man's own brow, too. But dammit, we're proud of what we're building/wearing/removing the brakes from!

Used to lurk at that OTHER place but it became to nauseating. 2 whole pedes caught the Kung Flu here In VERmont and everyone state wide is buying up TP and Sanitizer like it's the end of the planet. I asked a woman today, "Hey...what? You think those two people are traveling around the state and touching everything?" Calm down, put back a few rolls for the next cray person...

So are you into comics or naval aviation? Your username evokes both.

2
Ghostridersixseven [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

No. 30 years in US Army combat aviation as a chopper jockey. Last ride was an AH-64D Apache (LONGBOW) Attack helicopter. Last in the sand in 2010. 100% medically retired due to battle damage. Donald John Trump is the greatest President in my lifetime. I've been around awhile. Ghostrider 67 denotes my stint in the "Ghostrider Battalion" and 67 is the year of my 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 restomod pro street hot rod. "The Yankee Express". Thanks fer asking. Peace.

Your unit must have had lots of training about the threat of the Soviets pouring though the Fulda Gap.

I believe the longbow was designed to blunt just such an attack. Nap of the earth, pop up to get the sensor clear of the terrain and back down to hunt the enemy and distribute the combat picture to everyone else with the data link.

That movie with Nick Cage with the Apache was pretty garbage as far as writing went, but nice to see that helo put through its paces on screen. Top Gun for Army Aviation basically.

As far as your car, resto mods are hot right now on the used market, auction prices are through the roof as younger buyers don't want to deal with the hassle of carburetors and unsafe drum brakes.

Now I have to ask, "That thing got a hemi?" ; )

2
Ghostridersixseven [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Are you married, if not, want to be? lol!!

Yes, the Longbow is/was an upgrade that allowed a 360 degree "snapshot" in real time of the entire battlespace in a pop up look. This "look" was instantly transmitted to everyone for targeting and attack responsibilities. Assign who gets to kill what and all 24 choppers in a battalion pop up and over into the battlespace bringing death from above to literally everything there. No contest.

No, unfortunately. It does not have a Hemi. My Ram truck does though. The Express has a 540 HP 440 magnum big block- V8 though. It's a highly customized ride. The list of mods to the body and drive train is too long to insert here. Suffice to say that it's one of one. I will post up some snaps.

Barbieblonde 1 point ago +1 / -0

The hemi thing was just a kidding little elbow jab, I just remember as a kid seeing those commercials where they pull up and ask. Cute idea, like the hamsters driving the Kia Souls back then too.

Was going to pick up a car to drive back home and the rental agent gave me a Kia Soul in lime green. I asked him if I looked like I wanted to come across as a drugged out inner city possible dealer to every state cop there and back.

He said all the young people love them. I said this one doesn't and he gave me a silver Impala instead, the newer big four door ones that look like an LS Lexus if you squint real hard. Nice. Sped the whole time and cops drove past me and ignored me like I was not there. Might have been my high speed sunglasses and blonde pony tail though. Federal Marshall... coming through! ; P

Edit : Thanks on the confirmation about the Long Bow systems. It was what they call a force multiplier right?

2
Ghostridersixseven [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I contemplated swapping a HEMI into the Express but nixed that in favor of brute force supplied by the big block torque monster that is a 440 magnum..

2
Ghostridersixseven [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Most def a force multiplier. Suddenly the pilot can see the entire battlespace at once, the computer helps him/her select 26 targets virtually and lock them in while still hiding in cover, then the computers talk to each other and the targeting data is parsed to ensure every last enemy is covered in death, and BFT tells everyone who is friendly and who is enemy, and you can then deal. The IHADDs in helmet eye monocle keeps it all straight as you go and targets opportunity kills with the 30MM hanging from under the nose, and, you get to watch and record it all in real time hi def.

Ghostridersixseven [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's funny you mentioning the Fulda Gap. I was stationed near there in 1983-1985 at Wildflecken Kaserne. Tip 'o the spear. Facing down cold war hordes of Soviet armor and infantry if they came down the gap..like a minor speed bump. lol.

1
Barbieblonde 1 point ago +1 / -0

I read that it was the only area that the N.A.T.O. knew it was going to have to deploy tactical nuclear weapons... until T.O.W.,A-10 and Apache. When I read Janes from the time it is unreal how many man served anti armor systems the West fielded to close the Fulda Gap.

Nice chat! Stay hunkered down and safe! The China Flu isn't going take me out of the game anytime soon!

2
Ghostridersixseven [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

32nd AADCCOM had a shared overlapping target area all along the border. They/we were prepared to destroy the ground in advance of rolling armor for many kilometers past the border. There was a whole range of defensive strikes in train 24/7 that would have chewed up the Fulda Gap and the valley leading to it. We would not have made it a cake walk for them.

1
Ghostridersixseven [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, the GAP was a problem area and everyone knew it. Much like the troops at the Chosen Reservoir in Korea, we were nothing more than a very thinly spread deterrent to the Soviet armor wave of death. They would have rolled over us in a flash. We would have of course taken some of them with us but we all knew that without a doubt we were all dead meat. The Gap is a natural funnel that's perfect for rolling armor to advance right down into central Europe with out obstacles. It still is. It is a potential meatgrinder where defensive troops will simply buy time for a real defense to be mounted. I bristle when people say that those who served in the Cold War didn't really serve in a war. The hell you say...I call staring down the barrel of thousands of armored vehicles and troops coming down a wide valley directly at your puny defense a nerve racking, high stress, 24/7 adrenaline fueled existence. Exactly like I found declared war to be, while I was in Iraq killing them left right and center every day. I know that I gazed out at that fence line at the border every single day, wondering if today was the day I would be asked to die for my country. Every day. That's as much a war as any other one I have fought in, and there have been a few...

If you want some pics give me someplace to send them..

1
Barbieblonde 1 point ago +1 / -0

Just post them on a sharing site and give me the link. We "kids" were taught very young to never give out emails or telephone numbers and from that we created apps to talk to strangers and share images. Billions of dollars of value from younger people terrified of being stalked in real life. Sad actually. It is why there is such a problem with relationships lately. No trust and it was ingrained from childhood from the schools and media.

You bet. Go to FBBO and register. It's free. Sign in and scroll down through the forum lists to Resto mod / Pro touring and look for The Yankee Express. Or once on site use the search box and type in Yankee Express to go right to it. 52 pages of build thread with pictures along the way.
