This whole thing stinks to high heaven. At most so far 59 people have died, with most of them being in one nursing home in Kirkland WA. The media is fear mongering harder than ever to make orange man look bad. Schools and businesses are closing which is sure to send us into recession if not worse. Out of 330,000,000 people, 59 have died in the US and everything is screeching to a halt. Something isn't right here but it's fucking everything up. The economy was the best it's ever been in the history of our country and now everything is going to shit because of less than 100 deaths. More people probably die each year from skiing accidents. This is un fucking believable.
EDIT: I'm not saying this is a total hoax. I'm saying the media overreaction is making things way worse than they have to be. Panicking is never going to make anything better. If this is truly as bad as some of you are saying, I hope it justifies sending our economy into great depression 2 Corona boogaloo

In France now. Was just in the supermarket. In the food section, all rice and pasta have disappeared but not for canned foods, meats, tuna, sardines etc., they were all still there. You'd have thought that when this kind of thing happens people would hoard canned foods but no, they took pasta and rice and left everything else behind. Pretty weird.
I like carbs a lot, but in a serious emergency I’m grabbing all the protein I can get.
I happened to just have ordered 5lbs of protein powder for my smoothies..

My Publix was out of eggs, DHA milk, and toilet paper... you know what there were a ton of? Canned foods and baby wipes. This is a lot of reactionary panic, I agree.
However, one should prepare against the products of mass reactionary panic anyway, so if you’ve been putting off on the things needed to be independent and safe for a while, do so.
There was nothing at the 3 Publix by my place. Nothing in Walmart, Aldi, convenience stores, etc. All the meats were gone (was going to make beef jerkey since it will last a good while...and haven't made some in a long while).
Wiped out here locally, too. No eggs, milk, cereal, laundry soap,tp, all lunch meats, cheese and breads are gone. I need to go to work, and brown bag my lunches. No access to a microwave during the day. Going to have to get creative and think out side the box a little.
that's weird, here in NC just came from aldi, and it had 2 pallets of paper towels, lots of diapers, plenty of milk/eggs. the meat was a little slim pickings, but there was plenty for me, they had tons of deli meats, cases of it. there was very little they were out of stock. my grocery store had stuff when I went by there too.
The only thing I really can't find is hand-sanitizer and clorox type products like wipes and baby wipes.
No issues here, we still have had ZERO identified cases of Corona in the entire region. Every store I have been to has overstocked in anticipation of a run that hasn't occurred as of yet and I'm doubting will happen. On a good note, my commute to work in the city has become heavenly, nearly no government workers going to work these days, they get paid to sleep and stay home now.
And also hoarding TP is one of the stupidest things to hoard, because one can 100% improvise other stuff for your toilet needs when you run out of toilet paper, whereas if you run out of food, water and ammunition you're into unmitigated disaster (assuming you're paranoid enough to consider that you need to hoard 3 months of supplies)
And why are they hoarding stuff that goes stale in 1 month or needs constant refrigeration?? You should have at least gotten some beans (natural form) and even if you're a picky eater needing you emergency food to taste good, you could have gotten some raisins or dried apricots or natural chees - which is a preserved food in itself!
You are right -- though getting overweight people (the problematic people here) who sustained on microwave dinners and pizzas to live off sprouts might be a stretch for them :DD
They could likely have tolerated a new diet of corn flakes and raisins and milk, or eat cheese, but from the look of the panic buying many seems to be too dumb and chose the wrong stockpile there......
We didn’t fall for the panic, and didn’t grab toilet paper our last grocery trip last week. We had 4 rolls so we thought we were good. Now we are down to 1 roll in each bathroom (2). Can’t find TP anywhere. Since I’m a lady, I started using a washcloth to wipe, and save the TP for poo wiping. Insane that I’m even writing this.
Why TP!?!! We are stocked on food, and like you said, we have more than enough wash clothes WHEN we get to the point of having no TP.
Set the alarm and go to the store at about 5am. go to a grocery store that isn't as popular. there was plenty when i went.

I read somewhere (sorry, no link because I’ve been to too many sites at this point) that a lab worker there had been arrested for selling lab animals and had made quite a bit of money on the side. Makes more sense that the virus got out that way than a deliberate release into their own population. Though they do kill prisoners for organs, so who knows?

What's really frustrating is that the vast majority of those "news" are actually OPINIONS and REACTIONS from commentators, contributors and some so called experts, meanwhile there's very few information about what's really going on. They're just hyping it up and spreading fear as if the sky is falling. Also, no matter what news you watch, in one news cycle all the stories are centered around one event - Russia Russia Russia, dismemberment of that journalist by Saudi Arabia, impeachment, Solameni drone strike, and now the freaking chicom virus. I can't find anything else to read. Even lifestyle and entertainment section is full of these stuff. I'm so sick and tired of today's 24/7 news.

Now they're running their FUD playbook on Covid 19, and they've managed to crater the entire US economy... Over 41 deaths. 77% of those deaths were in a single nursing home.
It boggles my mind how people are incapable of doing the most basic math: even IF you get Covid, your odds of surviving are 99% if you're under the age of 50.
But the media isn't looking at it from THAT angle, instead they're making shit up, saying "millions could die."

It is crystal clear that Sleepy Joe is in cognitive decline, and they're now trying to keep him from any public appearance so he won't embarrass himself. House whip Clyborn spit it out the other day that it won't be necessary for Joe to continue his primary campaign since his nomination is already a sure thing. This virus outbreak just provides them a perfect excuse for that. It also allows them to call the president to cancel his rallies. This is all of a strategy to get the heat off that old fool and prepare for their next move.
