This whole thing stinks to high heaven. At most so far 59 people have died, with most of them being in one nursing home in Kirkland WA. The media is fear mongering harder than ever to make orange man look bad. Schools and businesses are closing which is sure to send us into recession if not worse. Out of 330,000,000 people, 59 have died in the US and everything is screeching to a halt. Something isn't right here but it's fucking everything up. The economy was the best it's ever been in the history of our country and now everything is going to shit because of less than 100 deaths. More people probably die each year from skiing accidents. This is un fucking believable.

EDIT: I'm not saying this is a total hoax. I'm saying the media overreaction is making things way worse than they have to be. Panicking is never going to make anything better. If this is truly as bad as some of you are saying, I hope it justifies sending our economy into great depression 2 Corona boogaloo

this disease is roughly 10 times more communicable and 3 times more deadly. Unchecked it could kill 100k to a million in the US.

I am a scientist that works in vaccine development. Everything you've said is wrong and there's no data to support it. It is less contagious than the flu (even according to the WHO) and the amount of death's is hilariously low.

The "MUH HIV MOLECULE" bullshit has been proven false. The original claim comes from some paper that says "oh yeah, HIV has a similar mechanism for infecting cells." You'd have to be absolutely fucking retarded to make that leap, but there you have it. A paper was even released saying "no, it's not a BIOWEAPON and this is why, you absolute tarts"

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7033698/

Did it come from Wuhan biolabs? Probably. Was it genetically engineered? No. These things have obvious markers if they're engineered.

I started looking at the crosstabs of people who actually show up to the hospital and get diagnosed with the flu next to actual confirmed flu deaths. When you compare those numbers (and not flu PROJECTIONS made from those numbers) to corona virus confirmed positives and outcomes bybage group, corona looks very similar to the flu.

Only real pain in the ass is that this is additive to the flu. So we need to build capacity before next flu season.

But estimates of 100K to 1 million deaths in the US are wildly irresponsible

I remember reading an article yesterday where the title was something like "35 year old VICTIM of the Coronavirus.... who also had Dengue fever. BUT SERIOUSLY CORONA GUYZ!!"

But estimates of 100K to 1 million deaths in the US are wildly irresponsible

The panic going on in the US is un-fucking-believable. But at least it's not Iceland, who has effectively shutdown right now. The exchange rate of my currency to US dollars is absolute shit right now.

He has to take these actions now to reassure the public and investors because the Chicken Littles have been tanking the economy, and blaming him.

For starters, The deaths in state of Washington should be subject to a criminal investigation. Amazing that there has been no spread for there, alone?

What if the cdc is full of the swamp just like the fbi, cia, state dept, nsc, ...etc. When the media says “trust the experts” I inherently don’t now. This is moving along the same lines as other impeachment hoax’s or power grabs. I have family that is screaming Trump is a tyrant but at the same time they want to give him more power? I’m starting to see the headlines now “Medicare for all” “universal income” “Trumps managing the outbreak poorly”. And they wonder why people are skeptical of the outbreak information. I have heard for 3 1/2 years now how the left wants to kill the economy to keep Trump from getting elected.

I don’t think this is a “hoax” per say but the data I’m seeing reported is significantly manipulated and not as comparable as they are presenting it.

Yeah I edited my post with the link. On my phone so couldn't find it right away

Do you have a WHO link showing that covid 19 is less contagious than the common flu?

I see the HIV link you updated.

TPMJB 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think it was the WHO health director's speech where he directly said that. I'm at work right now. Long story, but thanks Corona for causing everyone to stay home

Since you appear to know what you're talking about, quick questions: Wouldn't it be sort of a good thing if a whole lot of younger people got this as quick as possible? Without any serious symptoms, of course.

Wouldn't that build "herd immunity" faster? You can't be a host and contagious again once you catch this particular virus and get over it, right? Older folks, who are understandably being more cautious right now, then wouldn't be around as many potential carriers.

Doesn't really matter if they did or didn't. It's fairly benign.

Unfortunately, just like the flu, immunity to the disease only lasts a few months tops. That's why the flu vaccine is laughably ineffective. In the rare instance that they do get the flu virus right that year, if you got the vaccine at the beginning of the season, you'd be susceptible by the end of the season. That's why, at most, they boast a 60% efficacy. I believe one year it was only 19%. The US government pours literally billions into the companies that make that vaccine.

The worst thing that can be done is panic. Just ignore it and go about your day. Drink plenty of water.

Thanks for the info. I knew it was rather benign, just curious if an effective "herd immunity" could be forced into the population for this particular virus.

The only things I've learned from this are that mass hysteria is very easy to produce, and that people don't usually buy toilet paper in bulk. I mean I have at least 20 rolls left from the pack I bought at Costco in May. Do you people not have linen closets?

I think, beyond adding media’s interest in the clickbait hysteria, segments of the medical bureaucratic bloating that began with Obamacare is using this as some sort of industrial savior complex writ large.

After all, when Obamacare saves the world, think of what we could do with yuniversal healthcare/Medicare for all.

Pharma execs said 30-50% of cities worldwide will be infected.

Lol what a reliable source. Gee I wonder if they could have a motive for scaremongering....

K-Harbour 10 points ago +10 / -0

Why hasn’t everyone already died in the state of Washington? How did the virus so effective contain itself there?

TPMJB 10 points ago +12 / -2

MUH R0!!!

What part of "we don't test everyone and the data is grossly insufficient" don't you understand? Half of you prepped retards don't even know what you're talking about, you just regurgitate whatever bullshit you saw in a coronavirus thread on /pol/

B-B-B-BUT PHARMA EXECS!"

Imagine an industry that gets a huge surplus of funds whenever a panic occurred, saying that there's another bad disease!

Gates, Bloomberg, Johns Hopkins —- October 2019.

Block_Helen 4 points ago +4 / -0

Hey, I've been prepped for years and I'm not panicking. I'm just worried about the economy.

5
Bramble 5 points ago +6 / -1

You know what's crazy? About 100% of cities get infected with the common cold every year.

What virus is the common cold? A different coronavirus.

Staatssicherheit 4 points ago +5 / -1

The art of persuasion. Your R0 values was a good argument. However, the belittling attack on "you being an indian doctor clearing SAEs" harms it greatly. The appeal to authority (pharma execs) only works in situations where the audience respects that particular authority.
