This whole thing stinks to high heaven. At most so far 59 people have died, with most of them being in one nursing home in Kirkland WA. The media is fear mongering harder than ever to make orange man look bad. Schools and businesses are closing which is sure to send us into recession if not worse. Out of 330,000,000 people, 59 have died in the US and everything is screeching to a halt. Something isn't right here but it's fucking everything up. The economy was the best it's ever been in the history of our country and now everything is going to shit because of less than 100 deaths. More people probably die each year from skiing accidents. This is un fucking believable.

EDIT: I'm not saying this is a total hoax. I'm saying the media overreaction is making things way worse than they have to be. Panicking is never going to make anything better. If this is truly as bad as some of you are saying, I hope it justifies sending our economy into great depression 2 Corona boogaloo

The panic inducement seems to be coordinated. It's way over the top. Merkel saying that 70% of Germany will be infected? Absolutely absurd level of fear mongering. China has topped out at 80k infected. They have a population of 1.5 billion. That's not even a tiny portion of 1% infection rate. Once the weather started regularly getting into the high 60s in the Wuhan area, the spread of the virus completely stopped. I expect the same elsewhere, and within a month or so this virus will be in the rear-view mirror.

Sure seems like there are groups out there trying to intentionally wreck the global economy because they know a strong economy and stock market is Trump's best leg to stand on going into the election....

The lynchpin in your argument relies on China being truthful in their reporting. Not sure that's the data we want to base our opinion of over or under reaction.

No other country has even come close to surpassing even 1% infected yet. Italy is the worst and it's still a small fraction of 1% at this point. About 15,000 or so I think total. They have a population of 60 million! That is 0.025%.

Going from far less of 1% infection rate to saying 70% is just absurd. I expect to see a slowing of the momentum in Italy's infection rate any day now because the weather is warming. When the sun comes out, the stronger UV light kills viruses on surfaces much faster.
