The last remaining true mods turned off posting to keep shills and sappers from posting.
Sappers being those that intentionally post violent content that can be pointed to in order to get the subreddit into trouble.

I think the posts stopped because T_D now requires email authentication. Most people, like myself, thought "Fuck that!" and we've never been back to check up on what's happening.
I presume Tom Fitton may still be creating a few new posts every week, but who knows?
I don't think most people care enough to think about it.
