Yes. There are tons of stuff they do. In fact, my kids are homeschooled and play more sports and have more free time for other activities than the public school kids. We take trips whenever we want. It's pretty awesome all the way around. My 16 year old step daughter is graduating almost 2 years ahead of her public school peers.

It's actually easier for them to practice extracurricular activities when done right, because the parents can manage their time with a lot more flexibility. Just enroll them in a sport, music classes, study groups and the such and you've covered a substantial part of the social interaction.

Homeschooling is so popular nowadays, that they end up having multiple teachers and multiple classes with other kids in the area that want to be homeschooled. It takes much of the time garden off of a single parent and shares it around

5th grade comes around. One day, my son is late coming home from school. No phone call, no info. So I walk to the school and find my son in his classroom being cornered by his teacher and principal. He's crying and when he sees him, he tries to run to me but they block him. I walk in, and the principal locked the- door behind me. I push past the teacher and grab my son.
They tell me he's a danger to himself and others. I ask what he did. They tell me he started punching his hands on his desk and they had to pin him down to "protect him." My son said he put his palms on his desk and they held his wrists there. I look at his wrists. Her nails had cut 3 inch long gashes into his forearms. They were bruised and bleeding.
Now, i've been livid this entire time. They know it and they look scared. So I ask what started all this and oh man... they tell me it's because he got mad because they wouldn't let him leave the school after school was over! Why not? Because they claimed he had peed on the floor. Some kid had poured fruit juice on my son's backpack and they tried to tell me he had peed on the floor on purpose. It was fucking juice from some other kid.
So I tell my son to start leaving, they try to stop him but I move in between. I told them they were shot human beings and that they'd never be seeing my son again. (I also told the admin, but they covered for the teacher and principal). They said some shit as I walked out about my attitude and I turned around and shut them up with a "fuck you" real quick. My son told me that they spent 20 minutes before I got there telling him he had bad parents and that he was a bad kid. Yep, they tried to convince him that we were bad parents.
Next school, my son is bullied constantly (a kid kept running him over with his bike on his walk home and teachers ignored it). I pulled him after a couple of months.
He's homeschooled now. He zooms through his school work and then chills out at home with me all day. So I’ve worked as a BHT for going on 13 years now taking requests from school staff to do safety assessments for children for things like suicidal/homicidal thoughts. We have a requirement (our agency and the other behavioral health agency that also does these assessments) that the guardian be contacted, notified, AND give consent for us to speak to their child before we do so
Signing a child up for counseling also requires consent from a guardian, and of course the counselor has to be licensed by the board of behavioral health to practice
This is a clear circumvention of the rules. I’m assuming they are trying to claim it’s a school “club” and not formal counseling as their loophole
