Let's make some things clear. If someone is saying it's overblown, they're right. If someone is saying it's not real, or some other wacked out shit...DEPORT pls.
We've seen media-induced panic many times. Hurricanes & blizzards that never happen, Russian collusion, the Kavanaugh hearings, impeachment, etc. The media, driven by economic incentives, are motivated to keep people tuned in from crisis to crisis.
Human coronavirus 229E and human coronavirus OC43. Two forms of the common cold. The other forms are rhinoviruses.
You asked for numbers, but they're not available because we don't test and report the common cold. The estimate is ~15% of common cold cases are from these two coronaviruses. I see estimates online of anywhere between 60,000,000 and 1,000,000,000 cases of the common cold per year in the US, so I'll use the lower number. 60M * .15 = 9 million coronavirus infections per year in the US.
??? Why are you so emotionally invested in other people not acting hysterical?? Maybe some of us aren’t scared? Maybe it’s false bravado due to fear? Maybe the data doesn’t support clutching of the pearls yet? Maybe some people are suspicious of the corporate media (fox included). Maybe President Trump and the republican leadership don’t have a choice due to the upcoming election? Are you going to be alright? At this point the data doesn’t support hoarding toilet paper and putting a pillow over grandma, but you never know. I’m not going to speak on behalf of anyone on this site. As far as I’m concerned the flu sucks , but not as much as the ( I told you so why aren’t you totally shaking like I told u so crowd.
It's interesting to me that people aren't taking at least a cue from The Donald himself. People here seem so focused on how the enemy is trying to leverage this event against the president that they're ignoring the communicability of this virus and the exponential growth of its spread. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html#epi-curve
I'm not concerned for myself getting the sniffles or running out of supplies because of retarded ass hoarders (I'm still mad about the years long 22lr shortage).
I am however concerned for...
my 80+ grandma
my 80+ diabetic grandpa
my 60+ diabetic father,
my 65+ parents-in-law.
Because #1 I love the hell out of them and #2 I don't want them to die and start voting Democrat. I'd hate to be the one to give them any disease with such a mortality rate on their demographic. That's why I'm going to delay my receiving the virus as long as I can; when I do get it I'm going to be sure to quarantine myself so my body can kill the virus without letting it escape to anyone else.
TLDR: Wash your goddamn hands and don't get my grandpa sick.
The original poster didn’t delete his posts or comments. He was permanently banned for pointing out exactly what you have also pointed out. Listening to Trump is actually an unpopular opinion on theDonald when it comes to Coronavirus. Groupthink / fear... stages of grief: denial
Give me a break. Have you considered how this virus bullshit has been something they've tried to use against our president and he is simply leveraging it as an opportunity to fight back? This whole thing has been almost entirely a political tool and not a real emergency situation outside from that.
You can be scared of getting infected by this weak ass virus but I'm not going to be. I'll still be avoiding the public while this is going on as to not get involved with whatever panic instances could happen but I'm not going to panic and get all tied up in a knot and overreact to this.
Same for you too. Almost all stats I've read say how a vast majority of infected people recover with no complications so I'm not sure what the fuck you're so spooked about.
True but I don't think my 80+ grandpa with diabetes-1 would fare as well. And if he does get it I'd rather he not have to wade through a hospital overclogged with people who could easily recover with no complications.
This is mass hysteria and we are crushed under the weight of a spooked herd. Old people are always in danger of a virus. Why not just isolate them instead of shutting down everything?
Fox News is just as bad. Tucker Carlson is the worst...he must have some hidden phobias, or he's a hypochondriac. Yes, the virus is real, and we can blame Chyna for failing to tell the world sooner. But we need to buck up and get a grip. Stop panic buying in grocery stores, and exercise common sense in dealing with this. This too will pass.
Well then, that settles it.

We had a Corona virus outbreak in 1997. It was slightly more deadly than the seasonal flu. It was reported once on page 8 in the newspapers.
But who was president in 1997?

I named two. So now you’re moving the goal posts rather than admit you had no idea that not all coronaviruses are as lethal as SARS/MERS.
We don’t actually know the true mortality rate of COVID-19 at this point. That’s what you aren’t accepting.

I don't remember China welding people in their homes due to the flu.
I don't remember Iran digging mass graves for people with the flu.
I don't remember Italy turning away people that were to old to die, because their health system is over run, for people with the flu.
If you don't take it serious then that is on you. If because of your hubris you get me or my family sick over it. FUCK YOU!

The government has been lying to us for decades.
At the same time public schools have been dumbing kids down and substituting wokeness for critical rational thinking skills.
The result is an age of conspiracies, where facts and evidence are subordinate to baseless theories.
It is what it is.

It's real, but it's a nothingburger.
Treat it like any other seasonal bug.
