This is not needed, they could have told them to cut table seating in half or something to limit the number of people gathering. There is no need to shut them all down unless there is an outbreak in the immediate area. This is bad news.

The big problem here is that a lot of people require away from home eating to survive. As much as we can say "learn to cook" or "be more self sufficient" it doesn't take away from the fact that these people will need to turn to food somewhere. Which will lead them to the grocery stores and raid shelves even further. States not used to annual emergencies (IE storm prone states) wont have the logistical compliance to handle the supply lines. As more people rush to the stores and load up on food as instinctual for survival more empty shelves will be reported on and will have a negative feed back loop generated by fear from the media. This is quickly turning into an economical disaster, not so much a viral disaster.

That's the plan. Most small businesses owners are conservative. Enjoy Taco Bell, tri state area

Nashville and I think St Louis did the same. Coming to your liberal run city soon I am sure.

BanditKing 8 points ago +8 / -0

NM uas been order to have 50% capacity. Sure it'll close soon as well

labajada 8 points ago +8 / -0

Our Governor is a fucking Umpa Loompa. Most of New Mexico is rural and with the ski resorts shut down we are officially in "Dead Season". There isn't anybody in the restaurants anyway unless you're in one of our 6 or 7 population cities/towns.

6
BanditKing 6 points ago +6 / -0

Sadly I am in abq. And I agree with everything you said.

6
ShitOfPeace 6 points ago +6 / -0

Nashville only shut down Broadway. But that happens to be by far the busiest place for restaurants and bars

1
residue69 1 point ago +1 / -0

And probably has the highest rents too. That's gonna hurt.

3
zwiebelsaft 3 points ago +3 / -0

St Louis did not as far as I’m concerned.

What is this going to do to the service workers? Are they all going to have to go on unemployment?

8
Returningtogod 8 points ago +8 / -0

They are trying to cram paid leave through on the virus bill. There’s been some pushback, suggesting workers comp etc.

5
spezisthedevil 5 points ago +5 / -0

It's sad to say, but never ending unemployment benefits (and low bar for for food stamp eligibility) are a big reason why Obama won his reelection. If they force millions on the dole because of the unnecessary Corona-Virus shutdowns, the MSM will fearmonger that Trump will "take those benefits away prematurely", and people will vote Dem in November to try to keep them. The deep-state/DNC/globohomos are going to buy 2020 with 'freebies' and fear.

What we don't need right now is a nationwide lockdown, and I don't believe the Trump admin wants a total lockdown either.

You are correct:

National Security Council and White House debunk rumors of a national lockdown

5
covfefe-pot 5 points ago +5 / -0

Also what is needed for NYC and urban areas isn't needed in upstate NY. This will do way more harm than good.

Don't worry. Li'l Andy has shut us down statewide.

7
Lowlylurker 7 points ago +7 / -0

I don’t think anyone wants the virus to spread. I don’t think anyone wants aids hepatitis Marxism, or stupidity to spread. Maybe some are concerned the impact of overreacting may harm small businesses?

6
SisterCovfefe 6 points ago +6 / -0

I agree. It's difficult to float that sort of business for long when you're a little guy.

Yes, problem is bars and sit down joints that don't deliver or don't already have an established take out option.

What is to stop the Taco Bell cook/cashier from wiping their nose as they bag up your food or touch your credit card? Nothing.

There is a difference. COVID-19 is not easily transmissible via third party contact, like a bag or tissue. Its highly contagious in the air, which means closed off spaces where it can be circulated around.

That being said, this is an overreaction IMO.

3
Space_Force 3 points ago +3 / -0

I heard that it can last for days on surfaces. That said, I believe none of what I hear and half of what I see.

2
residue69 2 points ago +2 / -0

Reading the replies, I'm reminded of this:

It's a floor wax! No, it's a desert topping!

2
Grillervative 2 points ago +2 / -0

It is not highly contagious in the air, but by contact, surfaces.

3
Grillervative 3 points ago +3 / -0

So when you ask for ketchup, salsa, sauce, they throw them on top of your fries, tater tots, nachos, etc... After handing germ-ridden money, while wearing latex/nitrile gloves order after order. I think it would be safer eating in the restaurant.

2
residue69 2 points ago +2 / -0

But gloves are magic. As long as you're wearing them, you're hands always feel clean!

4
Lowlylurker 4 points ago +4 / -0

I know you’re thinking, it’s President Trumps fault. Your wrong though, it’s global warming. Kidding chilledcovfefe . I will let myself out now.

4
bigdeer67 4 points ago +4 / -0

This makes me furious!! This is absolutely being driven by the left and their media! Some businesses will never be able to recover from this ridiculous bullshit!

4
chuckachookah 4 points ago +4 / -0

I don't care if I lose all my 401k, there is no way I'll vote for anyone other than the GEOTUS

But, yep, the mainstream media is driving this to hurt Trump. It's simple and easy to see. And, it's a disgusting shame.

4
poonis74 4 points ago +4 / -0

No dining in restaurants and bars in Kentucky, too.

4
uvontheterrible 4 points ago +4 / -0

Agreed, power hungry governors gone mad.

3
45isthebomb 3 points ago +3 / -0

Keep them open for takeout! Now there will be a million people in the grocery stores.

3
doofus 3 points ago +3 / -0

The real f'ed up thing is all 3 governors are politicizing this. Bad mouthing the administration. WTF is wrong with these people.

1
residue69 1 point ago +1 / -0

Destroy their states economy, beg the fed gov't for money, grift as much as possible, then implement marshal law and take all the guns!

IN too.
Spez: drive through still open I think.

3
Latinalover71 3 points ago +3 / -0

Some say they might be too early crashing the economy. There will be time to push this through the system if we all do the right thing. If this pushes through by May or June we are back to work and with an awesome investment opportunity. Trump 2020!

Erikabodereka 3 points ago +3 / -0

How is this not socialism? Yeah, yeah it's for the children.

We're from the government and we're here to help.

I mean the 15$ wage hike already killed off most dining. Might as well finish off the rest.

If we commit enough tax payer dollars, we may someday find the cause of obesity...........

2
Man0lo 2 points ago +2 / -0

My understanding is that the restaurant closures refer to the dining rooms. Take-out/ delivery/ drive-thrus are still operational. It's still going to damage the economy, but we will have access to restaurants.

2
MaxineWaters4Prez 2 points ago +2 / -0

Restaurants operate on slim margins. This will close many locally owned establishments. Sad.

2
Space_Force 2 points ago +2 / -0

I work for a POS company in NY some of customers that are bars/sit down are closing their doors indefinitely. Most of the rest are going no cash and/or contactless delivery.

The phrase, "Hopefully, we will all still have jobs," was used by management a few times this morning.

Federal coronavirus package (now increased by 50 billion) guarantees relief to impacted small businesses.

1
residue69 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well, if the Small Business Administration is handing out the money, only trans-women of color owned businesses will be eligible.

I got an email from Grubhub saying they were cancelling all commissions and encouraging people to support local restaurants - but I guess you can’t deliver if they’re not opened.

SJBHamilton -14 points ago +2 / -16

Do you want to stop the virus from spreading ?

5
johnbillaby 5 points ago +5 / -0

It will spread all over, they are just trying to slow the spread so hospitals can keep up.

3
DisgustedByMisleadia 3 points ago +4 / -1

We could have done this without shutting down businesses, if people were following the "social distancing" guidelines from the CDC.

Reportedly, that's why the OH governor over-reacted: people packed into bars this weekend for St. Patrick's Day.
