No that's stupid. Payroll tax should be $0 for the rest of year. No handouts. $1000 won't do shit. But payroll tax holiday will help every working American and every business.

$1000 could help a lot as a one-time payment, possibly repeated once or twice a month or two apart if conditions warrant it. A lot of people who are productive are not on any payroll. Construction and remodelling contractors, restaurant wait staff, etc. And a lot of people who rely on rental income from one or two small properties they own (common among retirees), may not be getting that income if their tenants work in industries that have shut down. People need to buy food and keep their basic utilities on.

It's a bad idea. Will only push socialism. Every business has a payroll tax. They pay half and the worker pays half.

But many people are not on any payroll. And a society in which everybody is on a payroll would be a 100% socialist society.

All it does is encourag people not to work. It's a terrible idea. The $600 from Bush after 9/11 didn't help.

A $1000 credit per person is best. The US economy is tipping into recession and will move into recession if every American just spends $3 less per day. A $1000 tax credit enables Americans offset the $3 they won't spend, by providing $3 they can spend. It's better than giving it to Wall Street to spend on stock buy backs.

Right now a lot of people are without work and a lot of savings have been lost due to the virus hysteria. The economy which was once in full blaze is now smoldering. Something will need to be done to jumpstart it. This is not the answer.

Whatever the government subsidizes you will end up with more of it, or it will become more expensive. If you subsidize unemployment, more people will sit on their asses. If you subsidize college, colleges will raise their tuition.
