That’s incredibly misleading. I hate seeing trump sites misleading like MSM. 99% of deaths worldwide are with 70+ who have PRE-EXISTING RESPIRATORY ILLNESS. So it’s not even just older folks it’s older folks on life support, on Respirators, with bronchial and lungs conditions including lifelong smokers. Stop fanning the flames of fear and hysteria.
The problem is your comment is also misleading. It includes older people who are diabetic or borderline diabetic, people with existing infections of most any kind, Low immune systems due to Vitamin D deficiencies, people who currently have the common Flu, etc. Its not just smokers and people on respirators.
Yes. Also the immune systems of older humans are generally weaker, and many other factors.
So? What is the purpose of your strawman argument? I never said that old people don’t have health conditions and a 3rd grader knows that.
My father in law, an army vet and later physician, has prostate cancer and heart disease. He could also have 10 more great years ahead of him with grandkids and maybe great-grandkids. Yeah I’d prefer he not die early. Sounds like you have written him off since he has a “condition.”
The breakdown is 3.6% for age 60-69; 8% for 70-79; and 14.8% for 80+.
In our case for all age 65 and over, 8% is a reasonable average given that only the older half of the 3.6% death range falls into this age group, and there are certainly plenty of people over 80. I used the word “about” to indicate that the 8% was an estimate, and I believe a reasonable one.
It's not necessarily age, either. There are some conditions associated with aging in some people--but it's the conditions, not the ages. An old person and a young person can be diabetic, have asthma, have heart disease. So yeah, all this speculation about numbers and % is bullshit. And, there have been too FEW deaths to get any kind of statistically meaningful figure. The majority of the first deaths in Washington State were all people in the same LifeCare facility.
And statistically, older Americans have more health problems. One might even say there is an association between being 65+ and having health problems. I’m a physician with decades of experience; I believe I am capable of understanding such a basic principle.
A higher incidence of medical conditions does not make senior citizens less American or less worth protecting.
What if someone is 65+ and in excellent health with no history of respiratory or immune issues? A person in excellent health is going to be quarantined by the state simply because of numerical age?
I have it! Let's pass a law making them all wear a big yellow star on their clothing to signify their age. That way, we'll know whom to call the cops on.
Oh, so now you pull the physician card. What's your specialty, doc? Also, your argument is a straw man. Nobody here is saying not to protect senior citizens; we're debating your specious statistics. If you really are a doc and have such poor logic skills, including tossing in straw men, well, I don't see how you got through med school.
We didn't endure this inconvenience or financial hardship for the Swine Flu. It killed plenty of elderly people. So what's different this time? Trump.
Yes, this one may spread a little bit more and be a little bit more lethal. But there is no need for the media lead panic.
The MOMENT news of the virus started to come out, Pelosi and Schumer bad mouthed Trump. They didn't come out with a plan to solve us, saying "Mr Presdient please do this...." they came out saying TRUMP SUCKS. That's after TRUMP IS A RUSSIAN AGENT. TRUMP COILLUDING WITH UKRAINE AGAINST BIDEN. Now it's TRUMP IS KILLING PEOPLE.
I'm an expert on the Swine Flu. There was a bit of hysteria then, too. But the panic induced now is absolutely fucking ridiculous. Twitter had BOTS going in NYC trying to tank the economy. Who is paying for that? Who is leading that effort?
This is treason and people should hang for it. Fuck netflix and chill. This is a concerted effort to scare American citizens - and tank the economy and Trump. The "collateral damage" is anyone who was on the edge economically (millions of Americans).
strictly to slow the spread. We know people are going to be infected, we just want to space it out so the hospitals are not overrun. This will increase the survival rate for at risk groups if necessary medical care is available.

covid-19 may cause male infertility
Ah yes. Only people already on ventilators and lifelong smokers (who apparently we should write off anyway?) are dying.
Who is being misleading?
Yes. Also the immune systems of older humans are generally weaker, and many other factors.

Business Insider (a shit news source) is using CDC data in the graph available here:
https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-death-age-older-people-higher-risk-2020-2?op=1

Business insider is full on communist. I'll take CNN over business insider

I do recognize that the case fatality rate likely overestimates the true death rate due to many not being tested.
So let’s cut it in half to 4%. That’s still 2,000,000 potential preventable deaths.
The same data is also presented here, a better site for following the pandemic:

was just at the VA today. They got that place locked down hard to protec these old guys
My city's hospital has been on tight visitor restrictions since early Jan due to flu, this is just continuing their already tight restrictions.
An old Marine and a young Marine. It's a beautiful thing.
"Murica.
Stop trying to divide the country by age. It's a health issue, not an age issue.
There are lots of people 65+ who are in good health and pose no threat to you or themselves.
I just don’t want them to die needlessly.
Their numerical age is not going to make them die. Their health status will determine that.
And statistically, older Americans have more health problems. One might even say there is an association between being 65+ and having health problems. I’m a physician with decades of experience; I believe I am capable of understanding such a basic principle.

Marines fight the enemy. It ain't just a virus.

You are going to need documentation for your 8% mortality rate. Stop fear mongering.
