I have seen a lot of conservatives and Trump supporters be dismissive of this virus. I completely understand why, because the leftist, activist media is absolutely trying to stoke fear and hysteria and are trying to use this to hurt Trump as much as possible.
I urge you to please realize that just because our shithole media is ghoulishly using this does not mean that it’s not a serious problem.
It doesn’t mean we should panic, or be hysterical. I truly believe that if we all, as a nation, follow Trump’s guidelines that we will slow this thing down enough so that it will be manageable and will not overwhelm our system.
But if we don’t follow these guidelines as a nation, we will be facing a truly horrific situation.
It helps to think of this virus as a DDOS attack on our nations hospitals.
~20% of infected people require hospitalization. Without social distancing, the virus grows on an exponential curve where it approximately doubles every 2-4 days. We only have a million hospital beds in America and each hospital has a very limited number of ICU beds and ventilators. We quite literally do not have the beds or the equipment that we need to handle the numbers that we will be facing unless we follow these guidelines as a nation.
Once the 20% who require hospitalization cannot get it, the death rate shoots up.
People say “the flu kills more people” or make other such comparisons. The flu does not threaten to DDOS our nations hosptials. All of the other things that kill more people and that people like to make comparisons to do not threaten to DDOS our nations hospitals.

The common flu does not threaten to overwhelm hospitals with an exponential increase in cases as we have vaccines and herd immunity. Covid-19 does threaten to overwhelm hospitals with an exponential increase in cases as we have no vaccine and no herd immunity. Thinking that Trump would do this just to avoid being pilloried is totally ridiculous. Trump is doing this because it’s a serious fucking problem and we need to listen to him.

Yep. People here are disbelieving of this crisis just because the media is capitalizing on it to try and bring down Trump. There are so many instances of the media crying wolf that now, here's a real crisis, and people are unwilling to consider that maybe the crisis is legit. But it is; people need to start looking at the facts. When's the last time "just the flu" resulted in the kind of actions being taken by Italy and elsewhere? Did the media make them do it?

He's a NJ/NYC physician who is now handling COVID patients. Seems to be a Trump supporter, too. Anyways, go back and start going through his Tweets from around Feb 29 up till now. He goes from being as dismissive and disbelieving as everyone here... to now being freaked out by the whole thing and realizing he was wrong, now that he's seen firsthand what we're dealing with. I really, really hope that people here start to wake up and do what's necessary to save more lives and prevent this from overwhelming our system.
I'm dismissive of the "crisis" because I haven't seen a single frightening statistic.
All the panic mongers rely on a) hidden data allegedly buried by the Chicoms, b) potential data that luckily didn't happen, or c) future data that hasn't happened yet.
If a crisis has to rely entirely on nonexistent data sets, it probably ain't a crisis.
So if the potential worst-case scenario is averted due to taking these measures, you won't believe there was a potential worst-case because... it didn't happen? How convenient.

I’m honestly so fucking furious at the media right now for creating this situation. It’s beyond frustrating how so many people don’t believe this is a serious problem because the media is so fucking dishonest and has set all of their credibility on fire. This is the kind of situation where we need a media we can trust and we don’t have one. You’re exactly correct, people need to take of their US glasses for a minute and look at Italy. Look at Spain. Look at what is happening to country after country all over the world.
This is a defining moment for our generation, people need to wake the fuck up.
