I saw it looking real bad in China, when it seemed most everyone was saying it was blown out of proportion...and I started doing some prepping in January.

I then saw what seemed like nothing in terms of cases in the US, saw what seemed like huge overreactions in terms of closures and cancellations, and was highly skeptical (though still glad I'd done some preparing).

Friday I began to take the prospect of panic seriously, if not completely sold on the seriousness of the virus overwhelming our medical system. I filled in some holes in my prep work for our family.

Today.... I'm sold on this thing genuinely being a big deal. POTUS would not be asking for things like schools to close down and people limit themselves to gatherings of 10 if this wasn't serious.

POTUS loves the economy, and we all know he'd do (almost) anything to help it. Obviously he knows moves like this are not good for the economy. If he is doing these things, this threat is very serious. After the presser today is the first time I've really taken it that way in terms of the virus (and not just the panic associated with it).

if you look at the numbers, they are not even as bad as the flu. The problem is that it seems to target older people very seriously. If there is not a significant increase in cases in the next 2 weeks we should be in the clear.

I guess the biggest problem is how contagious it is and that people are going around spreading it while having no idea that they have it. If it got out of hand, it could definitely create havoc and chaos in our medical system. And the more people can't be treated, the more it spreads.

Most people won't need to be treated...like 99% will fight it off fairly easily.

i don t think it will get out of hand. Not based on these numbers anyway. The flu on avg has millions of cases with a few hundred thousand needing medical care. Of those you get roughly 20 to 60 thousand deaths a year. This is not even running near that. Its just that the WU FLU has the potential to get a huge spike in cases. But as long as we eat from separate dishes, wash our hands, cover our cough and stay away from the elderly . we should be ok

It’s the people over 70 and anyone with a precondition that are vulnerable. They’re the one s with the worst complications. Flattening the curve is all about making the spike not as big so healthcare can cope and treat everyone.
