Is this really that hard for people here to understand?

The media sensationalizes and blows shit out of proportion, but listen to what Trump is saying - self isolate for 14 days, don't go out, don't eat out, work from home IF you can.

If you think "this is all exaggerated" then you AUTOMATICALLY think Trump is exaggerating as well. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I AM incredibly saddened by people who legit lost a job when their company / business got closed temporarily by whatever state you're in. It sucks ass, these are hard fucking times were going to go through in case you didn't figure that out back in February.

But that's why Trump himself initiated unemployment relief, to help you guys who did lose your jobs out. You going to slander that as part of the grand conspiracy too?

The simple fact is, regardless of the media ignoring this (Dec - Feb) or when they did hype this (March), the virus is bigger THAN ALL OF US. It is a demonstrably HUGE black swan event that goes beyond the Fed pumping trillions of dollars, beyond the economy, beyond Trump, and beyond our own power.

Self isolation and closing down businesses into quarantine NOW keeps hundreds and thousands of people alive TOMORROW, and two weeks from now especially vs not quarantining.

We're pedes, we've survived the most insane and authoritarian digital quarantine of all time on the shithole known as Reddit. I think we can pull 14 days for Trump and this country so we don't end up like Italy, France, Spain, Iran, or the commies who started this shit, China. Even if "muh only affects young people", have some goddamn respect for your elders.

AMERICANS DONT GIVE UP

I run a small business with employees who can't afford to go two weeks without a paycheck. They have children to feed and bills to pay, and I don't trust for an instant that the government is going to take care of them.

this. theres no insurance for this kind of thing. you either lose profits and hope you can get a reasonable loan to recover or the owner takes a bath on it to pay the help...or the help gets laid off and the business goes under. Unless the government guarantees everyone gets back on their feet, shutdowns only hurt everyone

Reach out to your community. There are plenty of churches, charities and such that can fill in the gaps, especially in times like these. No one should go hungry during this time. If you hear of someone going hungry, let people know.

Will churches keep their power on and their rent paid? Churches do a lot of great things, but they can't replace peoples' livelihoods. People have to work.

jgardner 2 points ago +3 / -1

I can't speak for other churches, but our church will.

You'd be surprised how much churches do in the community.

No, they won't replace livelihoods, but they will keep people from becoming homeless or starving, and they can help people find good jobs.

Do you think you get a pass in hard times? Did your great grand parents get a pass in the Great Depression?

Shit sucks ass, I know and I said this earlier, not everyone makes it out with money and happiness every day in this country. Trump is doing what he can.

My great grandparents did whatever the hell they had to do to keep a roof over their head and their children fed.

Exactly, and that's what everyone who's resourceful will do.

Problem is, what happens after 14 days? Viruses do not die in 14 days, no way, no how.

Eric-CIA-ramella [S] 2 points ago +5 / -3

Curves is what happens. We want linear growth like Japan, not exponential growth like Italy / Iran / Spain / Germany / etc who didn't give a fuck in the first two weeks.

You don't bother to do 14 days now, infections begin doubling per day - do 14 days now, you buy the healthcare system TIME.

4
handpeople 4 points ago +7 / -3

Right, to smooth the curve. Problem is, we dont have any idea if 14 days does it. Say it works for 14 days, then back to work... week later, its back on spike course. China is full of it, their population is still on lockdown, what happens when they go back to the factories?

2
Eric-CIA-ramella [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

No, we do know because as I said, Japan and South Korea flattened theirs since index infection a month ago. I would LOVE to know China numbers as that would've been insightful.

However, China is an exception as,

  1. They were caught off guard the most of anybody
  2. All smokers
  3. Super population density per square mile
  4. Communist chain of command delayed action for almost an entire month

I look to Italy and other Western nations in how their infection progresses. Japan and South Korea's isolation will be proven furthermore as effective if Italy's succeeds as well.

Ya, I figure the sooner we isolate for two weeks and let everything run its course, the quicker it will all be over.

3
Yolobaggins 3 points ago +6 / -3

It starts with 2 weeks. You think this shit is gonna just stop for 2 weeks?

No, it’s gonna be isolation for 2 weeks, then a month, then more. People will start to go crazy, losing their minds, jobs, economy will go into recession

sustainable_saltmine 3 points ago +4 / -1

the more they keep still seeing any cases, even one, the isolation/quarantine/shut down continues. it's not going away quickly

1
Eric-CIA-ramella [S] 1 point ago +2 / -1

As iterated above, the point of isolation is not to ELIMINATE the virus, it's to buy the US healthcare system TIME. Time that will save hundreds of thousands of lives.

This shit will be around for a while, year at least since that's how long a real vaccine will take.

I think it will depend if a 15-day breather is successful at slowing or stopping community-spread cases.

There will probably be places where it doesn't work, and measures will be extended. But if there's no further community spread in an area, they have the option to return to something close to normal.

Due to the incubation period and asymptomatic cases, 15 days is long enough to stop further spread if people follow the guidelines. If they don't, then we'll be having this same discussion in 15 days.

I wonder how many shills here don't realize that every time they break quarantine, quarantine resets.

Brer_Raptor 0 points ago +3 / -3

And? It's not going away quickly, at all. We'll likely go into a recession. That's just how it is.

This is another of your bullshit posts.

Not a big critical thinker?

-1
Brer_Raptor -1 points ago +3 / -4

How so? What is he incorrect about? People here are acting like this isn't a crisis, when it really is. Wake up!! Here, look at this: https://twitter.com/BioBreakout

This guy is a hospital physician in NJ/NYC. Scroll up through his Tweets between Feb 29 and now. He starts with the same talking points as many people here! "Just a flu", etc. And then he gets assigned to actually handle incoming COVID patients, and he says it's unlike anything he's ever seen and that we're in trouble. This has the capacity to overwhelm our hospital system, just like Italy. When are people going to realize this?

2
Eric-CIA-ramella [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

They won't realize, because the shills amongst us are desperate to jump off a cliff "to prove Trump right". I don't believe this virus has anything to do with Trump to begin with AT ALL. It's beyond his and our control completely.

It's one thing to criticize the media for hyping it, it's another to criticize your fellow countrymen who are trying to warn you.

Brer_Raptor 0 points ago +1 / -1

Yep. I don't think this is some nefarious plot or anything, and even if it was, the deaths are still very real. Italy's hospitals being overrun with COVID cases, is a very real thing that is happening. This is a global health crisis, and the media are seizing upon it for ratings and to try and use it to hurt Trump's presidency. But that does not mean it's not a real threat/crisis. People here are so used to the media crying wolf about everything, that they think if the media is saying this is a major crisis, then it must be the opposite. I wish they were right, but they're not.

I hope that thousands won't have to die here before people wake up and realize we have an Italy-level problem (but the way they're acting, it's like they aren't even aware of what's going on with Italy), but it's looking more and more like people are in complete denial. This is thankfully not an existential threat, but it's still a major crisis and a lot of people are going to die, and the world isn't just going to go back to the way things were before, in a mere few weeks/month or two.

What does that have to do with trying to flatten the curve?

-2
FooLyCooLie -2 points ago +1 / -3

Just because some of us believe this is something bigger than reaction doesn't mean we automatically think Trump is in bed with corruption...

1
Eric-CIA-ramella [S] 1 point ago +3 / -2

I'm saying you can't have your cake and eat it too

-2
FooLyCooLie -2 points ago +0 / -2

In what context? I don't follow.

1
brutustyberius 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ok...so you have this cake...but the only problem is that Epstein did not kill himself. He got the shit kicked out of him when he took cake from that big convict guy...you know the one. And he didn’t eat it because it wasa little stale. The edges were a little crusty. After all, it was prison cake. Hopefully, that clears it up.

-1
FooLyCooLie -1 points ago +0 / -1

What does Epstein not killing himself have to to with the coronavirus? Could you put it into the context of the matter at hand, please?

Spez:

Lol, you're just messing with me.
