The virus is not what we have to be worried about. It is the overloading of hospitals that we need to worry about. Also, a 3% or so death rate is not very high, but no one is immune to this. If it totally spread to the entire population of the US, around 9,000,000 people would die.

US flu season at its worst is 1% death rate. 3% is absolutely something to be worried about, Italy is currently averaging 6% with its older population.

Also consider that one begets the other. This would be flu season ON TOP OF corona hospitalizations.
