Funny how all the tanks and fighter jets in the world couldn't beat a bunch of vietnamese rice farmers and illiterate goat herders hiding in caves with nothing more than rusty AKs and pickup trucks. It's almost like military force multiplication equipment is primarily meant for fighting other nations instead of a guerrilla fighting force.
I think it’s less that we couldn’t and more that our leaders weren’t willing to commit to the kind of overwhelming use of force that a war declaration brings. Accepting high levels of civilian deaths could’ve meant much quicker, more decisive victories in both conflicts but at the cost of mass condemnation of the international community.
