The only things that were in short supply were eggs, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. On Saturday the same store was nearly barren.

Meanwhile, in Cuba, 50 years later and everyone is still on ration cards.

Something like local governments shutting down the grocery stores.

HungNavySeal300Kills 15 points ago +15 / -0

Wow these local Democratic mayors are taking this virus really seriously. Amazing. I just hope they don't miss anything and make sure to shut down the entire economy. Good for them.

It'll ultimately hurt them the most. It's their district's businesses they're killing

8
GuerillaYourDreams 8 points ago +8 / -0

They don’t mind killing businesses in liberal areas... look at what happened in Los Angeles after the riots. Most of those businesses never came back.

2
KekistanPM 2 points ago +2 / -0

Probably because they know they won't get blamed for it.

2
Knight1_of_Sunset 2 points ago +2 / -0

And I'll make sure that I'll pin the blame for this hardship on the DemocRats!

CDC started it with their recommendations

Full blown martial law.

That's exactly the difference with capitalism and socialism. In socialism, nobody cares, no effort put into sourcing products faster, no creativity, nobody has decision making power, nothing happens. In capitalism they run out for a day, see the insane demand, and move heaven and earth to get more the next day.

GuerillaYourDreams 5 points ago +5 / -0

And if everyone knew this, there would be a whole lot fewer Democrats and Bernie supporters!!

0
FinnishNationalist 0 points ago +2 / -2

Devil's advocate: What about when there's no profit to the stores anymore, prices are too high and people laid off from work don't have money to buy? Could national socialism be able to force those businesses to run on losses where a capitalist one would bankrupt and close sooner?

I mean obviously the socialist one isn't sustainable and even at best case scenario it isn't nearly as efficient as a healthy capitalist free market, but it might have some utility in a time of crisis. We are seeing this all around the world right now as markets crash and businesses close.

10
theultimatesean 10 points ago +10 / -0

No. All that would do is force the grocer to close too.

What you will see in the coming weeks is that Americans (capitalists) are the most generous and caring people on the planet, FAR more than what any government purports. We will help our neighbors. We will come out of this stronger than before.

Liberals are buying guns but still haven't ever shot so they're scared to diversify purchases

It's all people who are worried that wackos are going to buy all the ammo and they don't be able to find it next time they go to the range.

Harambe 4 points ago +4 / -0

popular vs nonpopular rounds

2
ColbyP 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's not really surprising. They aren't planning in hunting, they're planning on having self defense rounds available if riots break out. It shouldn't come to that, but I can certify understand the desire to prepare for it just in case.

For real. Under capitalism we have a toilet paper shortage that ranges from amusing to mildly irritating. Under socialism we would likely have a legitimate food shortage that would break out in violence and civil unrest. Thank God we didn’t choose socialism.

We want shopping today too and got everything we needed. Some lady was eyeballing my wife when she put 10 cans of beans (priced 10 for $10) in the cart. That’s the amount we normally buy, but this lady seemed concerned that we were hoarding beans.

HungNavySeal300Kills 14 points ago +14 / -0

"Beanhoarder!" *hiss

TD_Covfefe_Crusader 6 points ago +6 / -0

Haha, pretty much.

1
thuggishruggishtrump 1 point ago +1 / -0

Always gotta say stocked up on the beans lol.

2
theultimatesean 2 points ago +2 / -0

Went yesterday here. Store was all out of:

TP

Tissues

Spaghetti sauce

Beans

2
KekistanPM 2 points ago +2 / -0

Kinda makes sense that both TP and beans would be out...goes to show people know what beans can do.

1
HungNavySeal300Kills 1 point ago +1 / -0

Honestly at a certain level of beans you just start hoarding fresh pairs of underwear.

You can’t be serious? Look, we Americans are being brainwashed by our blatantly right-wing dominated media, namely CNN and MSDNC. Ration cards are a good thing! It means those who have it may or may not have access to said rations, which is a very resourceful approach since everyone gets only what they need!

2
AnEnigma2U 2 points ago +2 / -0

I actually still have my grandparents ration books from WWII. You don't get what you need. You get what you're allowed to have.

THE OLD SAYING: In capitalism, you occasionally have bread lines. In Communism, you occasionally have bread.

Yes. The communists keep people submissive by taking away their guns, their freedom to speak their minds, and by keeping them hungry and therefore busy scrounging for food to keep themselves and their family alive. Think of what must be happening in Venezuela right now.

NocturnalPatrol 4 points ago +4 / -0

Seriously, it's been half an hour. What do the shelves look like now?

4
Kashim11 4 points ago +4 / -0

All the major stores got ransacked in my area. The grocery story I work at wasn't hit until target, Costco, etc were empty. That gave my store time to prepare for the impending nightmare that has been the last 5 days. We are good on TP and paper towels but most everything else is gone. I like seeing the store do really well but not when people are panicking and scared.

6
Toucansexual 6 points ago +6 / -0

The Walmart I work at has it good and bad. Some shelves are stocked full. Others are empty.

The funniest part, no one wants to touch anything vegan.

1
stjimmy92 1 point ago +1 / -0

The weird thing at my store was how no one wanted ground turkey. Our entire meat department was empty, except the ground turkey which was untouched.

0
DisgustedByMisleadia 0 points ago +1 / -1

I understand why people would prefer beef. But, we use ground turkey instead of ground beef for almost everything. If both of you have issues with cholesterol, it's one way to mitigate it.

No, we haven't given up beef completely. We still eat it about once a week.

I work as a merchandiser in various grocery stores (including Sam's club), Sam's is being fucking demolished but the other traditional stores I work aren't being hit too bad, canned goods? Meat? Produce? All regularly stocked.

Hopefully whenever all of this is over people appreciate why America is such a great country to live and grow up in.

4
strawberryismyjam 4 points ago +4 / -0

I went to my local supermarket, it too was fully restocked.

Many of us already had masks, months of food and water, toiletries, etc stocked well before cov.

Anyone without a stock the next time a virus hits should be laughed at and left to their fate. Honestly, anyone in that position now deserves the same, but any remaining excuse evaporates in the future.
