i know many schools have food that has to be used anyway. Its probably not a horriable idea. I have stocked up for my family but I am currently eatting any and all food I can away from home until they tell us to shelter in place.

I could see if they were using what they had stocked, but it should apply to ALL kids. Finding food right now is difficult regardless of economic status.

It definitely should apply to all children.

My local school system is doing exactly that - free lunch for everyone under 18, 5 days a week for the duration of the shutdown.

it’s not free.

True... but the kids get to eat, and my tax dollars already paid for the food they are serving.

There are hard working poor people. Feeding children is not something I will ever be upset about.

My gripe with this is that this is only open to certain people. Go into a grocery store in New Jersey right now. There is nothing there. It doesn't matter how much money you have if there is nothing to buy.

I agree with you, you bring up a great point that I did not think about. The program should be open to everyone who needs it. My small town is using their emergency funds to purchase meals from the local restaurants and then distributing to anyone in town who needs it. It helps the restaurants and the community.

All schools in New Jersey in closed, but God forbid we let people not get their free breakfast and lunch.

It's all paid for already. Why not use it. It's going to go to waste.

That would be understandable, but they have made no indication they are just using stock.

A teeny tiny little azzhoe, gnat sized maybe.

Our Society has allowed the corrupt government to socialize a portion of Society via the public schools. Many of us have known that for decades now, and tho we howled at school board meetings and voted as we could, Federal government monies and courts beat us down every time.

So yes, today we have the spectacle of schools being closed for educational purposes, that may not be done on school properties, no. But the schools have been used to feed the kids, allegedly that is the reason, to provide sustenance. really it is to manifest Control...

But yeah, parents expect the school to feed and care for their kids, somehow THAT is considered normal and righteous. And if you look at the people in line it ain't kids, it's obese parents with buckets to load up goodies.

I'm in Texas, we have the same problem. Local news was showing some Saturday, 1 day after schools closed, parents lined up 3 hours before a school opened it's food service; the schools were expected to feed them regardless of any closings.

This is something else we must change as Society emerges from this miasma of Corrupt Government/media. Force the public schools back to education or close them, save all that money. I pay taxes to 7 different school taxing authorities...why? Food banks are not that expensive after all.

You are a teeny-tiny arsehoe, you gotta pump those arsehoe numbers up!

Some of these kids won't eat unless the school provides it.

Yes, the parents SHOULD provide the food.

But what if the parents don't?

And don't say they shouldn't be having children they can't afford.

That's a given.

But what if they DO have children? Remember, some people will lose their jobs during this period.

At least their kids might eat.

Where do you draw that line? Especially right now when every grocery store in the state is empty. There are people that aren't going to be able to find anything regardless of how much money they have.

What about people that didn't qualify but are losing their job now?

Umm a little assholey... They are called the poor, and you would be surprised how many kids get their lunch and breakfast from the gov school program. And I'm talking in the south back country folks not the city. They are collecting in my area and we donated to help those struggling in my community.

Kids aren't hard to feed and don't eat a lot unless they're having a growth spurt. So, not at all. shrug

A sandwich with a little meat and cheese is fine. A fruit cup every now and then for snacks. Maybe some goldfish crackers.
