You can work 32 hours a week in Colorado and be counted as “unemployed”. And a lot of companies are “firing” employees so that they can collect unemployment, but then they’ll re-hire them when businesses are allowed to operate again. So the 20% number, may be “accurate” as to the “unemployment rate” (briefly), but it won’t reflect what you think unemployment means. People won’t be looking for jobs, because they already have jobs, even though they are “unemployed”.

Yeah and of that 20%, all but 3% will be re-hired when things get back to normal here in the next few weeks.

Restaurants, bars, companies, etc will all need to re-hire everybody.

Seems right, it is not rocket science, is basic math. Shut down entire industries for 30 days or more, of course there are going to be layoffs. Restaurant and Bar industry is tough as it is, and operate on tight margins. So any loss of revenue = layoffs.

CO saw an influx of 7000 unemployent insurance applications in 2 days after shutting industries down. Their website is crashing due to the number of hits. The gov, Polis, is a tech guy and he couldn't plan for this? Not too difficult to implement autoscaling and HA in the age of the cloud.

If all this nonsense is really for the Wu Flu, it is silly. Destroying the economy and infringing on constitutional rights for an illusion of safety. We should revisit the powers vested in the government for emergencies.

I'm fairly sure it was 20% if they did not do any stimulus, which is not what they are doing spending $1T to prevent this (we'll make China pay the bill). Mini mike's propaganda machine at work stoking fear again with Chinese whispers.
