The mark of the beast.

Random but I’ve always thought it ironic that Apple products like iPhone lead to much temptation/narcissism/pride like Adam and Eve w/poison apple.

Honestly smartphone changed life for better and worse, deep down we know it’s not our friend

its also ironic how early translations had Adam and Eve eating from the tree of knowledge not an apple tree. It was their sin to seek knowledge without God.

Weird how the iphone fits both translations of Adam and Eve's fall.

This isn't to say I think the iphone is the mark of the beast. I've always just found it strange.

Pretty sure the mark of the beast is the cell phone.

The more I think about it. I think the Amish are right. Tech is the beast and the mark is all this crap we have.

Amish are interesting. For example, the Amish really do like cell phones. Reason being, they can choose to turn them on and off, where the original phone lines were a tool that people could use to reach into your home and disrupt family time.

The Amish didn't just pick a point in time and decide no more tech. What they did was cultivate a believe that technology should be weighed against the social impacts of said technology. Labor simplifying devices are rejected because labor is a virtue that strengthens the individual and brings communities together. Better to use a barn raising as an event to bring the community together than let 2 guys with nail guns do all the work in a day alone.

On the one hand this makes the Amish somewhat hypocritical, since they are able to review and pick over the technology produced by a civilization that isn't so caution in regards to their technology. In this way they are leeches on us. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the Amish wouldn't complain or care if outside civilization never invented anything again, so can't really blame them.

Its really up to their local Bishop. I know conservative Amish and I know "Liberal" Amish.

The liberal groups have some luxury (good ol' Merv has a swimming pool which I think is run off a generator)

The conservatives don't even want reflectors on their buggy. Hell of a spectrum and they're only 45 minutes apart.

I disagree with this. They pay taxes. Just because they choose not to purchase products doesn't make them hypocritical.

We haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years.

You're telling me that Amish Paradise lied to me?

My worldview has been shattered.

No way. I wouldn’t know how to do anything if not for the internet. From building cabinets to making traditional sour kraut.

The Bible is pretty clear on this one, and I wouldn't even consider myself religious.

He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

I believe that this "or the number of his name" is mistranslated. (In the original Greek, it's "grey" as to what the number was referring to.)

I believe that the "number of his name" is referring to the "number" that becomes the "name" of the individual. Your identifier. Not specifically the "beast's" number. The mark is the mark of the beast, but the number is YOUR number. The number that is YOUR name. In other words, an identification number. An RFID chip.

The most literal and obvious translation would be that you will be given a "mark" that is your identification number, and without it, you will be unable to buy or sell goods.

You know, exactly like Bill Gates is proposing we have implanted in every man, woman, and child.

Exactly. 666 refers to Nero, the emperor notorious for "fiddling while Rome burned". He did a lot of public works projects, but was also downright ruthless.

I've thought a lot about Revelations over my life. And at some point...I started wondering if it wasn't an absolute end of the world, but a cycle that human society goes through. I mean, let's face it. We know the world will end someday. The sun, as long-lived as it will be, can only last so long. Everything in our universe is mortal, including the universe itself.

In the old testament, there's a definite cycle. Humans find God, thrive, get cocky, forget God, flounder, and the cycle repeats. Again and again. It has been the same for Christianity over the centuries. How many extreme or horrible events in our past seriously had people wondering if the end times were upon us? WW2 anyone?

I found this book:

https://www.amazon.com/Fourth-Turning-History-Americas-Rendezvous-ebook/dp/B001RKFU4I

For some reason, back in ancient times (such as the Roman empire for example...) people were very aware that history had a tendency to cycle in seasons, and the cycle repeats roughly every 80-100 years. That is where we got the idea of a Century. We didn't just randomly decide to name a period of 100 years and have a bigger New-Years party every time a new one showed up.

Every generation tends to see the mistakes of the previous and tries to correct for it, and holds a different set of values. We've heard it pretty frequently here as: Hard Men bring good times. Good times bring weak men. Weak men bring Hard times. Hard times bring Hard men.

Well, the book here takes it a step further, and gives examples over history, and clarifies the cycle a bit. You get a "season" of infinite optimism, where people feel like they can do anything and that humanity is on the verge of solving all problems. (Think post WW2.) You get a "season" where cynicism starts to set in, and people realize that they haven't solved all problems, and start to question. (Think the 60s to early 80s.) You get a "season" where the culture starts falling apart. (80's, 90's, early millenium.) And lastly, you have a "season" where a major societal upheaval of some kind must take place in order for culture to re-assert itself. Usually this ends in some kind of war.

We're there. And this war is being fought by many "other" means.

The good news is we're probably about...oh... 10-20 years from a new "golden age" for humanity, assuming the communists don't win:

There's a very large awakening going on worldwide. (No Q required.) Wait, why are we letting idiots walk all over us to be polite? Wait, why are we putting all our manufacturing in one Chinese basket? That's stupid! Why do I have to do this desk job and only get paid a pittance when I could be fixing houses and computers and charge what I want? Why should I pay all this money for college when I don't want to be a CEO or a doctor? etc.

China is probably about to explode as their people have been pushed too far. They've just had their Chernobyl moment. What happens when your average Chinese Joe realizes "Hey, aren't there a billion of us?" The reason the CCP is being extra "evil overlord" lately is they're desperate to keep their people from realizing that. People in Hong Kong were clearly getting fed up. What about the rest of China?

Trump is clearly fighting a war against a worldwide deep state. And is outsmarting them at every turn. And every time this place (well, I suppose the old reddit) starts wreaking doom and gloom, he comes out better than before.

So who is our Nero/AntiChrist? I'd say it's somewhere between Obama, Hillary, Saul Alinsky, and George Soros. Soros is clearly the puppetmaster, the evil overlord behind most of our ills. But he's not alone.

I feel...strangely detached from our current happenings. Like I'm witnessing history in the making as a person in the future, reading up about our "interesting times", rather than someone living through it.

Anyway, I will always maintain that the "Mark of the Beast" is no particular technology. It is leftism. You have to show your mark (that is, show how much a good little sheople you are) or risk being "unpersoned". Similar things have happened in past cultures, such as Germany. I don't think we'll go the way of Germany, but I think we would have without Trump.

What i find strange is humans willingness to believe the words of other humans. You weren't there, you didn't see that shit, and that the Catholic church completely re-wrote history to fit their narrative is known.

If you are looking for God, I suggest mushrooms. If you look in a book, you will only find words written by humans, edited to fit the pope's agenda.

That's not the case. The Mark of the Beast is something that is willingly and knowingly taken and is one of the two unforgiveable sins.

AKA the cellphone.

Nobody is knowingly using a cell phone with the knowledge that it's the Mark.

That's not the mark of the beast. The beast was Nero Caesar and that's completely over with if you understand biblical eschatology.

Christians need Just stop looking for the mark of the beast because it's not something you ever have to worry about. They also need to read and understand their Bibles better

It's possible, but I think the mark of the beast will be something that glorifies satan. Satan is a copy cat and in the old testament people used to carry the name of God in their foreheads or arms. I think the mark of the beast will be similar (a name/text) but for satan.

Revelation 13:17 - And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
