Trump talked about chloroquine today, but not azithromycin. Is that drug available for use immediately?

Azithromycin is a common antibiotic. Manyn prescribe it as a Z-pack. Should be plenty of both to go around.

Zithromax i believe it is called

That is also known as a Z-Pak. SUPER common to be prescribed for many things nowadays that require an antibiotic. I think you take them for 5 days -- my son just had one recently. Most people or their kids have been prescribed a Z-Pak for some reason or another in recent past.

Yep. Take 2 on the first day, then 1 every day for 5 days. They're actually a pretty strong antibiotic.

It says it's a combination. He's probably just referring to the combination.

Yes, since the mid 80s. It is also a drug widely prescribed for a long time, with an excellent track record. Like the other, it is part of a family of related drugs that is even older. Pharmaceutically, you can't get much more conservative than this pair. The only kind of patent they can get is a use patent which is why people who know the industry, unlike the ignoramus that called me a "Bernie Bro", worry that it won't be allowed.

I think that is just a Z pack.

I first heard of Chloroquine in an episode of M * A * S * H. It's Vietnam War-Old, and it's still in production. Shows me that it works, and the side effects aren't a deal breaker. I'll fuckin' TAKE it.

Correct. They tried to outlaw off label prescription at one point and came too damned close to doing it. There are still powerful disincentives. You can't get in trouble for doing what everybody else is doing - even if you know damn well it's stupid. I've had working physician (specifically a cardiologist) tell me bluntly he didn't give a damn about the science - all he cared about was "is it approved?"

"But how do we destroy parental rights and make billions off a vaccine if we cure the virus?"

From your lips to god's ears, as they say. I mean President Trump did say that this is a game changer. We all know he doesn't speak on anything before knowing all he can about it.

Thought the same thing. I've been researching since I saw the fellow on the Ingraham Angle on Friday. I was hopeful, but after hearing POTUS discuss today, I'm certain that he would not have gone "all in" without ample evidence.

If you need further proof that the media is driving this global panic with the goal of crashing the economy, just look how this news is nowhere on the front page of drudge, nowhere on CNN ... It's literally only on fox news..

This is not a cure. Just a treatment. It does not work like an antibiotic or retroviral. It impairs viral reproduction and lowers immune response damage.

Vaccine being put through phase 1 trial already.

BLMadeMeRaysis 7 points ago +7 / -0

Preliminarily: a hell of a lot better than nothing, cheap, quick to produce and distribute. Sounds like a great stop-gap until more findings are available, or a vaccine is released.

Raoult clearly used the word "cure" - he's got pretty good credentials. You, on the other hand, are glib, but use words without knowing what they mean. "Retroviral" is a not a class of drug. I think I'll take him more seriously.

That was supposed to say ANTI retroviral. Specifically a category of drugs targeting RNA viruses like this corona virus and HIV virus. Which is another one of the many drugs touted as a potential useful treatment.

Cures are very specific in that they are singular elements that completely alleviate the ailment. Treatments are supportive in that they reduce the damage of the disease and allow for the body to heal but still require additional support.

But if you don't want to listen to me. Listen to Dr Didier Raoult:

"with the drug chloroquine had seen a rapid and effective speeding up of their healing process, and a sharp decrease in the amount of time they remained contagious"

Because "Raoult said those who did not receive the drug were still contagious after six days. Those who tried the drug were only 25% contagious, though"

In other words the virus was not entirely eliminated through use of the drug therefore NOT a cure. But a treatment I have been defending since the first hints of it being a treatment came out back in February.

Let Gates take his own injection and implant. For the rest of us, I think we'll be ok with the current man in charge....

How many patients? How were they selected? Any dropouts?

-1
IwantmyCountryback -1 points ago +1 / -2

And some doctors are livid with President Trump saying these can be used to treat the virus. Heard it on Laura Ingraham as I was walking through the room. He should not be talking about the efficacy until doctors ok it. President it putting it out for everyone to know!

You, sir, are as ignorant as a McCaine fan. The pharma industry is the antithesis of capitalism. It is the perfect example of "regulatory capture". Remedial education reading for you, in order:

  1. Milton Friedman "Capitalism and Freedom"
  2. Goodman & Musgrave "Patient Power"

I'm on your side, but considering AOC has a degree in economics, you might not want to use that particular appeal to authority.
