I'm 2 of the above mentioned people, let me tell you, we were not prepared for this. Our EMA director horded all the N95 masks, left us with just enough to ration each person with 2 and we have to reuse them. Not only that, we have been told that unless the dispatchers specify that the patients are meeting the "criteria" that we are not to wear them, for preservation purposes.
Ten minutes ago, I receive a phone call from one of my privates saying that his brother and his wife along with his mother and father have been placed in 14 day quarantine for contact with a suspected Covid-19 carrier. He has told me that they are also recommending he and his wife and anyone he has had contact with over the last week quarantine also.
This means that the entire fire/ems department in our town is effectively and possibly going to be put on quarantine. Our city leadership is so far behind the ball on this and have zero answers. We are short staffed, I've spent 96 of the last 144 hours on shift, working 48 on and 24 off. I am supposed to be at work tomorrow morning to cover shortages for another 48 hour shift.
I am not fear mongering, I'm stating the real, we are under-prepared, under-staffed and it "could" be in our firehouse, and worse, our families.
