Is this any different than an average day in The People's Republic of California?

You sure? I have no clue, I only ask because it would be a nice coincidence for there to be a guy in a mask with gloves on randomly at the time.

I really don't know, but the only thing that might be different in the last few weeks are the masks and gloves. But in SF, who knows, retail workers may wear those on the regular just to avoid being contaminated by the city. This type of legalized shoplifting was already going on here prior to chyna Virus.

Is it technically law, or is it prosecutorial "discretion" being exercised?

California Prop 47 limits the crime to a misdemeanor, and that designation is an adequate deterrent for police prioritization. The stores have more to risk by trying to stop someone. It’s shocking. And very real. https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2016/05/14/shoplifting-california-prop-47-reduced-penalties/

Less than $1000 is a misdemeanor. It is no longer a felony. Cops don’t even bother. Stores tell their employees to do nothing because of liability. Bystanders will just watch because everyone knows the rules now.

Related - if you are in SF and your car gets broken into, don’t bother calling the cops. They won’t come out and won’t even write a report. Even if they caught the robber, they would just write a ticket, let them go, they’ll do it again.

If you drive around SF, you’ll see many cars with signs saying “doors unlocked. Nothing of value.” They’re trying to just not get their windows busted.

They're not looters, they're boosters......professional shoplifters that are supplying the black market

WTF is that? Shot on videotape so I'm guessing from the 80s or early 90s?

That's Tourette's Guy. He was an internet sensation right when YouTube started online (and for a short time before). Some time around 2005-2006.

Thanks. Was unfamiliar with him. Interesting bit of history. The internet/society was far less pc even back then. Twitter has really screwed things up.

Is this because of Coronavirus or because Gavin stopped arresting people for theft?
