“If the government can order society to cease functioning, from restaurants and other businesses to schools, due to a possible health disaster, it is highly likely that a Democratic president and Congress will similarly declare emergency and assert authoritarian rule in order to prevent what they consider the even greater ‘existential threat’ to human life posed by global warming.”
Agreed. We are voluntarily creating The Great Depression as we pre-bailout Big Business to avoid it. We have lost one of the most important truths of the modern era: a Functional Capitalist Economy is the single source of our livelihood, our health, our freedom.
JPMorgan anticipates 2.25 million unemployed in ONE WEEK. And most people think it is worth it! “What else can we do?” they ask, without any attempt to answer. The fast road to hysteria and martial law has been found.
Yes, many will. Restaurants for example may be hurting now, but once they turn on the lights and get revenue again theyll be ok, but they may have to lay off a couple people to account for lower projections. The more people laid off the less are buying things.
That will cause a slowish recovery in manufacturing. We have supply chain and can't just turn the lights back on. End user customers need to have demand, then big companies need to want to fill that demand, and on down the line to fulfill all the orders. But it'll be reserved, uneasy, nervous. A slow creep back.
In the meantime people are losing house and cars.
In other words, shutting down the economy brings enormous long term risk. And the governor's that did this are pieces of shit
