The CDC response in the early days has nothing to do with Trump. If anything, their shift in focus to bullshit tasks under Obama had more to do with it. But even setting that aside, all Trump can do is empower his experts. If they drop the ball, there's not a lot he can do.
Maybe, in a fair world, he should have, but the virus would spread even faster and wider, the hospitals would be more overwhelmed, more people would die, the media would blame him even more for the chaos and for ALL deaths, and A lot of normies would believe it's all his fault because they didn't "see" him doing enough.
This is what happens in virus outbreaks, and happened during other pandemics, but the media exaggerates everything when it's about Trump. They are crucifying him even while he does everything possible to manage the situation as well as humanly possible. If he weren't doing as much, they would be trying to destroy him about as much, but at least, because he is doing A LOT, everyone who still has any unwashed & healthy brain cells left, can see that the media are full of crap. We can see through the fake news, but unfortunately, millions of normies are still influenced by the fake-news media, and a possibly even worse tragedy than a higher infection and death rate from this virus, if serious measures hadn't been taken, would be if Trump didn't win the election in November and we lost America forever because, at this point, in 4 or 8 years of open borders, no deportations, and high numbers of refugees coming in (among other horrible policies), America would be changed and gone forever.
Whether Trump himself did anything or not, most of the U.S. would be practically shut down anyway because the media has made people panic. At least by taking every possible measure, Trump can "prove" to people that he IS taking the situation very seriously and doing everything that CAN be done to protect Americans' lives.
Also, the "socialism" allegations are being used mostly by the commies to say that socialism IS the solution and should be the standard 100% of the time, and by unrealistic people (mainly obsessive conservatives and libertarians) who don't get it that, if people feel they were unjustly abandoned by Trump, who promised that the forgotten people would never be forgotten by him, they will NOT vote at all or will not vote for Trump in November.
Trying to manage a crisis by ONCE (or temporarily) giving back taxpayers their own money (at least in the vast majority of cases) by helping tax-paying businesses be able to reopen after this is over, while trying to make possible for people to still have jobs, or have new job openings to apply for, at the end of this, is NOT socialism.
Crisis management to try and avoid the ruin of even more hardworking business owners and their employees is VERY different from permanent intrusive government, overregulation or takeover of private businesses by the government, and wealth redistribution to penalize the hard workers and benefit those who, in a system that offers every opportunity to all people and in a perfectly good and thriving capitalist economy, could very well work to provide for themselves, but basically choose not to do so.
Right now, tons of hardworking people, whether they are business owners or employees, CAN'T work for no fault of their own. That's why Trump wants to do everything possible to help them. But it's also true that, if he doesn't do absolutely everything that can be done, not only to contain the virus, but also to diminish faultless and hardworking people's financial struggles or total ruin during this crisis, he'll lose in November, and THEN, conservatives who are joining the socialists in saying that "socialism" is being used to manage this health/financial crisis, will have a chance to feel on their skin if Trump's reasonable choices now to help deserving Americans are worse than having Biden (or whatever leftard is going to be making the decisions for him) as president, bringing a lot more truly socialist policies, open borders, no deportations, no oil independence, 2A attacks, and so many more disastrous policies.

The thing is, federally...Trump is doing everything correct. He's doing what needs to be done on a national level (Freeing up liquidity, stopping travel coming in or out). Everything else has been left up to the responses of the states themselves. He's even gone as far as to leverage money to produce medical equipment and supplies on demand if needed because no one company would re-open a plant before the shit hit the fan.
However, lets look at the states that are most affected...they are Blue...have already draconian laws and have a hardon for diversity. These are the same power centers who called Trump a wacist for trying to move a tenth of our manufacturing back to the states and enforce the borders. Now that the shit hit the wall, these states are screaming for more help all the while curtailing their own citizens. They put Americans at risk for their ideology...and now that a virus has zero qualms in infecting them they are crying for help.
In short order, all of this would have never been a issue had the American Conservative did not give so much ground to the left. The whole Ben "I'll lose, but i'll lose on principle" Acolytes have led us down this dangerous path. Had we fought harder tooth and nail to never concede an inch to the left. I doubt this virus would have touched the shores as hard as it did...and it would have burned itself out in China far earlier. Why...because there'd be no reason for the leftards to travel to China, same with business personnel to go to china and be exposed to a virus.
The approval rating was split cleanly along partisan lines. GEOTUS could cure cancer, coronavirus, aids tomorrow, solve world hunger, and usher in an era of worod peace and these nutjobs would still disapprove because orange man bad.
I was originally critical of Trumps response, but I partly fell for the hype. The testing still bothers me, but that isn’t Trumps fault. His messaging was off at first, but I think he legitimately thought the virus was contained and was trying to prevent a panic...he is now controlling the situation extremely effectively.
I just can’t get over the way the media is responding. It’s horrifying. Their questions should be, “how can we help?”. Not how can we make Trump look bad.
Trump is flipping the script and even if the economy turns south, which I think is likely, the media is overreaching and will only help get him re-elected.
He stepped up when our country needed him the most. The media have been a disgrace in the way they've covered the chinese virus.

My prediction: the curve of approval of Trump's handling of the crisis will be inversely proportional to the curve of media hype and duration of the crisis. right now, it's 55% approval versus say, 70% hype. If it becomes 65% approval, the hype will recede by a factor of three, so 55% hype, and so on. Then, the media will narrative will invariably shift to "Trump virus response blunders leaves million of economic victims in its wake."
