China already has monopolised production of these N95 masks. They manufacture 97% of the masks in the USA. They only monopolised this recently and quickly. See the following article. On March 4th, the Chinese state press agency, Xinhua, reported (translated below) what a strategic advantage it would be to ban the export of masks to the US, stockpile masks, and cause US to be devastated by coronavirus:
If China retaliates against the United States at this time, in addition to announcing a travel ban on the United States, it will also announce strategic control over medical products and ban exports to the United States. Then the United States will be caught in the ocean of new coronaviruses.

The Communists don't understand capitalism. Capitalists are risk-averse and no longer trust the CCP. They fucked with the supply chain. They committed the biggest sin in capitalism.
Yup, the biggest strength that Capitalism has over Socialism is that it is decentralized, fault tolerant and antifragile. When the people with the needs are actively making the economic decisions things function better than bureaucratic central planning. There is no single point of failure for our entire economy and the workload of calculating efficient allocation of resources is distributed across all participants. Socialist economies are incapable or competing with free markets.
Assuming this is true it will be interpreted as an act of war. A cold war, but a strategic threat.
The result will be laws requiring strategic products to be made domestically. Not a smart move.
I think a big result of this event will be bills passed to protect strategic manufacturing of healthcare supplies. We already do it with shipping, steel and weapons. I can almost guarantee that a law will be passed that protects domestic manufacturing of medical supplies this year or next, whether or not OP is right.

We shouldn't be concerned at all. Taiwan went from manufacturing 1-2 million masks daily domestically to over 10 million daily in the span of 6 weeks. With Trump in charge I would expect the same sort of ramp up.
IDK how accurate these article links are. Maybe accurate, maybe not. The VP and others have said that the pre-existing national stockpile of n95 masks was 22 million. This article claims 40 million.
As for new production of masks, IDK if 3m made all their masks in China, but they have a mask plant in the US (Aberdeen, South Dakota), and it's been in accelerated production since January. They say they can make 35 million masks per month.

Fucking tie a handkerchief to your face. Why would not having enough N95 masks matter to us? Hospitals and CDC-types use face shields to prevent contamination.
I am wondering how quickly we could nuke China. Could we nuke them entirely before they got a shot off? If so, I am leaning towards doing it.
No chance. One nuke flying at China means full on global holocaust. There are other ways...weapons that we have been developing for just such an occasion.
