I work in a car dealership in PA. Was told today was the last day and to apply for unemployment. We had 4 new car sales (40k each) today and they're shutting us down. I hate everything right now.
Some other pedes mentioned that grocery distribution is probably hiring right now, and might pay something "ok" in the $15/hr range. Not much but better than zero.
My best friend and his shop got laid off this week. Machine shops all around mine are laying off or just closing doors entirely.
Write your local state rep, or call, and share a piece of your mind. Ask how 130,000 cases world wide in 48 days means you have to lose your job
I'll take the under. I was over it last week. This is some stupid bullshit. I'm to the point where I need a need word other than "bullshit" because I'm tired of saying "it's bullshit".
Changing the subject slightly...that's what people don't understand about Obamacare. It has done serious structural damage to the insurance industry. There is no "repeal". The damage is done.
LOL the "without question" part is cute considering Ohio is floating impeachment for dewine. Unconfirmed of course, aside from one story. But I get your point.
This is what I have been thinking for a while now. No way all this is for a flu-like virus. I think Trump is preparing us for a potential attack of some sort by China &/or Russia (possibly in coordination with Iran). But since that would send everyone into absolute downward-spiral panic, he's likely using the virus as cover so the masses don't flip their shit.
A couple days ago, there was a missile attack in Iraq, possibly backed by Iran, and a few days before that, there were reports of US & Canadian military planes intercepting & escorting one or two Russian military recon planes flying over Alaska. And in the last 2 days, I have seen 2 different videos of mile-long trains packed full of military Hum-Vs being transported near Chicago. My brother's friend actually witnessed one himself.
If not potential war, then the other thing that I thought could be possible is widespread arrests of traffickers and/or deep staters. Much harder for them to run & hide if the borders are closed, travel is restricted, the country is on lockdown, and no one is out on the streets.
Might not ever find out the whole truth, but from the get-go, my intuition was telling me the virus isn't the only major problem.
I also I'm leaning more at this point with the Q related timeline of the " roundup " . Never really bought in to the whole Q army but now it's kinda the only situation that makes sense . I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Yeah, before I heard the National Guard rumor, I was thinking it could be war.
But after hearing the rumors, the National Guard being deployed for a lockdown makes more sense.
...Even though the govt dismissed the rumors of them being deployed for lockdown, lol. But I hear the NG is out helping distribute & making supplies, so lockdown isn't necessarily the reason.
Where did you hear about that idea?
I saw an article about NASA experimentally shooting a projectile at an asteroid to break it up yesterday, so that could be plausible.
My mom also heard something about cosmic radiation passing by, and said something about turning off electronics. The electronics part kinda sounds like BS, but the cosmic ray premise is interesting.
Edit: Checked it out & it looks like just a spam message making the rounds.
But it does make the scientist in me wonder what we'll do if a direct hit by cosmic rays ever happens, lol.
Those fucks will burn the country to the ground just to gain what little power they think they deserve. I sure hope more and more Democrats in the rank and file start to figure out that's their agenda. These Dems are sucking up to the worst communist country in the world and they had the temerity to try and make us look in the other direction with their Russia bullshit. Keep waking your friends up. We are so lucky Trump is in charge and not any of the "leadership" on the Dem or RINO side
I did the math on what a month will do to California. I got an unemployment rate of 16.2% by mid April. That would mean 60% worse than the 2008 recession - hitting 70 times as fast.
The people ordering this stuff are psychotic and have no idea what they are doing.
Shutters are something to shudder over...They're almost as scary as the prospect of marshal(l) law, which could lead to states deciding to succeed from the union. I am defiantly worried about that scenario. Not scared, just a little weary.
(Seriously, why do I see marshal(l) law for martial ; succeed/succession for secede/seccession ; defiantly for definitely, and weary for wary so often ? It's to the point that when I see the correct spelling, it looks wrong.)
I was at Lowe's yesterday (and today). I asked the cashier yesterday if they were busier than the day before, and she said "oh definitely." And today the parking lot was as full as any regular day.
I think once the national guard chain letter text message thing dies down, people will come to their senses. Try to wash their hands more. And go about life as usual. I give it till the end of next week,
Except when you examine the core morbidity of the dead, they are 80+ years old, morbidly obese and smoke like its 1950. In the US for the youth having a higher rate of infection, look at the vaping stats. If you smoke, you are basically fucked. This has accelerated that “being fucked” phase.
I preface this with its your kid, you do what you think is best. For real.
Now, my advice if you want it (you can ignore it obviously) as a home school dad, is during a crisis like this it is ok to let them relax. Maybe not all day on the Xbox, but let them play. School is stressful, missing half a semester is stressful, and being super confused about what is happening right now is stressful.
But if you do decide to teach, know that you do not have to mimick the public school model. Public school is terrible as it is just designed for crowd control. Kids don't need to sit at attention and learn for 40 minutes at a time with 5 minute intervals. Every kid is different, but in general quick bursts of 15 minutes and then move on to an educational entertainment is good. Mix it up based on his interests.
I just want to offer something helpful, if this is crossing the line offering advice on your kid I apologize in advance and go ahead and ignore me :) I know i'd get very cranky if someone started tell me what to do with my kids
We had a school closure when my kids were still in school. A teacher strike. I sat down and made a list of the practical things I thought they should know how to do. Rather than just making them read, we had classes on things like:
~ How to balance a checkbook
~ How to count cash back
~ How to iron a shirt, do laundry, etc
~ How to put a budget together
~ How to plan meals for a week, buy groceries, etc
~ Cooking lessons, baking lessons, how to light a BBQ
~ How to eat dinner in a fine restaurant - complete with how to set the table for a fancy meal, which forks and spoons to use, etc.
~ Etiquette - shaking hands, making eye contact, being polite
~ How to repair your own clothes, how to sew on a button
~ Gardening - we started little seedlings in egg cartons.
Depending on their age, I had them look up these things and then we practiced them. For the garden, I was getting them ready to do that anyway over the summer, so we did a field trip to the nursery and bought supplies. Then we planned a garden, reading up on what plants should go next to each other and what fertilizer they needed.
You know, it's been 2 decades since then. They still talk about it. My oldest has little kids and she has just started doing some of that even with school in session.
Parent your kids! That makes them better able to resist the Liberal Programming
Look up classical education books, I recommend The Well Trained Mind. Your kid will be plenty challenged. I used that book as a reference with my kids. I also second letting them relax, but without computer games.
For math I like Math U See
"Classical Education" is very important and something the public schools have abandoned long ago. I'm mid 30s and have only begun to piece together my own understanding of what it means or would have entailed for my self. Kinda wish I had kids to learn along with, honestly.
It is super fun to learn with the kids. We would each read different books so we could discuss them. I had never been able to get through Wuthering Heights, but when I read it with my son and realized it was not a romance I enjoyed it. Very crazy book. He read Moby Dick and reported to me chapter by chapter. I need to get back into reading classics. Lately I have been mostly diving into history.
UNDER/OVER. HOW LONG BEFORE AMERICANS HAVE ENOUGH OF THIS BULLSHIT SHUTDOWN?
I'd say about 2 days ago.
The beginning of the week was shocking.
On Tuesday we were continually surprised to see how far it would go. When Wednesday wasn't even half over, we realized big brother was more forceful than usual, even despite not knowing anyone affected by Wuhan Flu.
By late Thursday to noon on Friday, everyone except the Karens began to show signs of bitterness and agitation.
Now, the first weekend of Spring has arrived after a long winter. Ching Chong Flu or no, most Americans have cabin fever and are short on desire to be told what to do on the weekend.
It's the new and novel way the left has exercised their muscle and got the world to stop in its tracks. All in the name of self preservation. Lock yourselves in, isolate yourselves and let us feed you the information we want you to hear. What's happening with the Yellow vests in Paris, are they still protesting? Honk Kong sure calmed down.
In 14 more days people will stop voluntarily self isolating in the Red and rural states and only the national guard will be able to enforce anymore quarantine.
Curious how temperature affects this. Our lakes aren't frozen over any more, which is early. Not much snow left. Top 6' of ground was frozen recently, but not anymore. Highs in the 30's, below freezing at night.
I work for an essential business’s distribution center. The business recently shut down a different center because an employee tested positive for Coronavirus. It just dawned on me how much of a stigma that the Media created. Hear me out here.
So for years the gays had pushed propaganda that someone shouldn’t discriminate against dating or fucking someone with HIV because people would feel pressure to not get tested for HIV so they could contract it, continue to date/hook up and the disease spread further. Assuming this is true, this is where we are at right now. Since we have carriers and people are going into mass hysteria going so far as to claim that we are going into a depression due to the sudden halt of money velocity, people could be very well afraid of losing their job or their entire company shutting down because they went to go get tested.
We had high risk people in Maryland recover. Tom Hanks is recovering. Idris Elba is recovering. There are no big name deaths from this disease like Freddie Mercury, Rock Hudson, and Ryan White did from HIV. 80% of people don’t need to go to the hospital when they get it. This panic is getting beyond out of control.
Let me ask you, why do you think the president is responding so strongly if it is bullshit? Either he's part of the bullshitting, is stupid and falling for media nonsense which is unlikely considering he knows things we don't, or it is real and you're ignoring facts. Which is it?
He's forced to keep the numbers near zero or else the media will begin the third hoax against him. They attacked him for early action and now they attack with every death.
The US people thankfully think he's doing a good job after the media scared everyone to hysteria.
From the report -
The 2009 H1N1 Pandemic: A New Flu Virus Emerges
The (H1N1)pdm09 virus was very different from H1N1 viruses that were circulating at the time of the pandemic. Few young people had any existing immunity (as detected by antibody response) to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus, but nearly one-third of people over 60 years old had antibodies against this virus, likely from exposure to an older H1N1 virus earlier in their lives. Since the (H1N1)pdm09 virus was very different from circulating H1N1 viruses, vaccination with seasonal flu vaccines offered little cross-protection against (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection. While a monovalent (H1N1)pdm09 vaccine was produced, it was not available in large quantities until late November—after the peak of illness during the second wave had come and gone in the United States. From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.
TIMELINE ON SWINE FLU
•April 2009 - Swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is detected in a 10-year-old boy. CDC lab testing confirms the same virus in a second California child residing about 130 miles away from the first patient.
•April 24, 2009 - The CDC issues an outbreak notice warning travelers of an increased health risk of swine flu in Central Mexico and Mexico City.
•April 26, 2009 - The United States declares a public health emergency as cases of swine flu increase.
•April 27, 2009 - World Health Organization (WHO) raises the influenza pandemic alert to a level 4, which means that there has been human-to-human transmission of the virus.
•April 29, 2009 - WHO raises the influenza pandemic alert to a level 5, indicating sustained community-level outbreaks in two or more countries within the same region.
•June 11, 2009 - WHO raises the influenza pandemic alert to a level 6. The outbreak is now being considered a global pandemic.
•October 24, 2009 - US President Barack Obama declares the H1N1 outbreak a national emergency.
•August 10, 2010 - WHO Director General Dr. Margaret Chan announces that the H1N1 outbreak has moved into the post-pandemic period.
•June 26, 2012 - A study published in the Lancet Infectious Diseases journal estimates that the global death toll from the pandemic ranges between 151,700 and 575,400.
So we routinely lose between 500,000 and 4 million Americans to the seasonal flu each year? Because that's what we're facing with this novel Coronavirus, if the R-0 and kill rate information we have is accurate.
We are facing something equivalent to the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919. That killed 500,000 Americans in about six months. We are trying to avoid that happening now. This is the centennial plague that has routinely rocked Eurasia, and now mankind, throughout history.
Explain to me why sustaining WWII-level casualties in 6 months is not worth taking steps to mitigate?
There is some bullshit going on and unless these ratfucks have a real good excuse like literally fighting aliens or some shit, they need to be strung up.
For one don't fucking call me Karen as you can clearly see my name is Mandy.
I can tell by your post, calling me Karen and trying to insult me, that you are a youngster so I'll forgive your bullshit for now.
I'm one of those with pre existing conditions. It's people like you that are gonna get me killed.
And when you do I will come back and haunt your ass like no fucking ghost 👻 has ever haunted anyone.
So as my original post said please take this shit more seriously you will probably be ok but think about us who are at risk.
If you won't consider related data, why do you accept projected data? Every year there are novel viruses. It being novel isn't that big of a selling point. It's been 49ish days and worldwide numbers are 190,000 cases and 11,000 deaths if you subtract China's numbers since no one believes them anyways. As you told me in the other thread, the growth rate could still be considered exponential if you throw in a specific time frame, but exponential growth does not last indefinitely in viruses.
One doc who specializes in viruses said we have to remember that you never want to kill the horse you're riding on, so viruses will keep mutating until they just make a carrier sick, but don't kill it. So they know it's mutating. This was at Singularity University online a couple of days ago. Interesting. About 30 min with questions
I don't consider China's data. I think Italy's numbers are valid.
Every year novel viruses. Except most of them aren't the smoking gun. But every once in a while, Mother Nature hits a jackpot. This virus attacks receptors that we are highly vulnerable to and have no defense against.
You are correct, exponential growth can not last forever. The human population is not infinite. But if it covers much of the population in a short time, it would be utter disaster. So we are buying time by restricting contact. It also teaches people how important this is. We must buy time.
Sort of - It depends on a ton of factors. It can absolutely kill a person, especially over 60, all by itself.
The technical explanation is here: https://youtu.be/PWzbArPgo-o
and it makes it obvious why testing for this is a real challenge.
I watched this and the subsequent one on treatment, too.
WHO and CDC are doing us a great disservice by giving us inaccurate numbers for the seasonal flu. I think many people's responses were blunted (including Trump's) by the statistic that 50,000 people in the US die of the flu each year (5,000 die of the flu, 45,000 die of pneumonia, CDC puts those two numbers together). After all of this is over, there needs to be some accountability within the CDC (both for not planning for true epidemics and inaccurate numbers).
FWIW - 2 things matter. Big fan of Bill, no matter what.
The Chinese Virus has a higher R-not of Influenza, like 3 vs 1.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, a longer contraction to symptom delta per transmission.
This is, IMHO, more about protecting the supply chains.
With around 10 to 14 days of recovery, if it spread widely and quickly, it'd overwhelm our HC system (which is under pressure thanks to flu vaccine being ineffective), but it could also greatly disrupt the supply chain.
We're a nation of majority consumers, not producers, of food. If you had a widespread, 3-week disruption in food distribution, shit would get insanely bad.
Couple that a 24/7 parade of dead grandparents on TV.
I hate the f'ing shutdown... f'ing hate it.
However, IMHO, i think this is about more than flattening any curve. I think this is about ensuring it doesn't trigger civil breakdown, or worse, because everyone is losing loved ones and bed ridden for weeks.
You're not adding anything "more than flattening the curve," as you claimed. Flattening the curve is designed to reduce deaths. Lots of deaths would cause lots of problems, many of which haven't been mentioned. You mentioned a couple of those.
Here in WI we have 4 dead, 1 recovered, and the other 277 cases that confirmed positive are currently infected. Pretty bleak.
These individual officials are making tremendous power decisions that affect the livelihood of many millions of people. I'm not okay with that unless the legislative bodies vote on these decisions.
my under is right now . . .
Same here man, this is some absolute bullshit
I work in a car dealership in PA. Was told today was the last day and to apply for unemployment. We had 4 new car sales (40k each) today and they're shutting us down. I hate everything right now.
Damn. And car sales is rough enough as it is.

I’m sorry to hear that. I live in PA and never felt more hatred for a man than I do Wolf (besides Winnie the flu) over handling this.
I'll take the under. I was over it last week. This is some stupid bullshit. I'm to the point where I need a need word other than "bullshit" because I'm tired of saying "it's bullshit".
Tyrannical
Is that you Joe Biden? Where have you been?
People will do the two weeks without question. After that I’m not so sure.
They'll be chomping at the bit at two weeks, but compliant; any extension will be wildly unpopular.
Problem is after 2 weeks how do you restart anything? The damage is done.
Changing the subject slightly...that's what people don't understand about Obamacare. It has done serious structural damage to the insurance industry. There is no "repeal". The damage is done.
Of course it can be restarted, but not overnight.
LOL the "without question" part is cute considering Ohio is floating impeachment for dewine. Unconfirmed of course, aside from one story. But I get your point.
Yeah, I knew people wouldn’t take that literally which they should.
They will hunker down for two weeks ‘without asking questions’. I think this is a better portrayal of what I was trying to say.
14 days is the incubation period. That's the timeframe most people are willing to wait.
On the plus side, I’ve seen more families hanging out together than ever before.
15 days is pushing it. We are already sick of the BS in tx and we aren't even locked down. MSM needs to get a life. They should all be put in prison.
Panic hype business closures needs to result in jail time for someone. CNN reporters, or ohio health director amy acton. Someone needs to pay.
Fear Porn is profitable! Screw price gouging, Polic Gouging is what it's all about!
Something else is definitely going on right now .
This is what I have been thinking for a while now. No way all this is for a flu-like virus. If it hurts Trump it will all be worth it - Libs
i am mentally calculating how many people in this country would take that 5k and just use it to buy rims.
Those fucks will burn the country to the ground just to gain what little power they think they deserve. Communists trying to destroy capitalism through sensationalism and abuse of power?
I expected Commiefornia and NY to do it, but when I heard Pennsylvania..... wha!!???!
I shudder to think about shutters
What about stutters?
Shutters are something to shudder over...They're almost as scary as the prospect of marshal(l) law, which could lead to states deciding to succeed from the union. I am defiantly worried about that scenario. Not scared, just a little weary.

Thank You !
Many small businesses already cannot reopen. Too late.
I've been going to the same gym for 25 years. It likely won't reopen
I give it till the end of next week,
So what do you expect people to do when you tell them they have to stay home for 2 weeks.
They're going to head to the home improvement store and work on the house!
EVERYBODY was doing exactly this on my afternoon walk today.
A man opened the door for me at Chipotle (picking up takeout) using his shirt instead of his hand.
A week before cracks show, two weeks and it starts to blow up.
Likewise, it is getting very bad in other parts of Europe too now. The countries that did better locked down fast.
Except when you examine the core morbidity of the dead, they are 80+ years old, morbidly obese and smoke like its 1950. In the US for the youth having a higher rate of infection, look at the vaping stats. If you smoke, you are basically fucked. This has accelerated that “being fucked” phase.
No one dies from the cold.
You're being downvoted but it's fucking true. In Italy crematoria can't keep up. And no, it's not just the old.
I think most people are ambivalent about it right now. But in another week they are going to get pissed off.
More people have died in car accidents since this thing started than have died from the Chinese virus.
I preface this with its your kid, you do what you think is best. For real.

and its way worse in europe where they get arrested for walking alone outside right now..
What are normal high temps there now?

Already started.
Do you know how this works? Ok.
Lesson One: The media works hard to set up GEOTUS for failure. He had no option but to do what he did.
Lesson Two: Go back and read lesson one, I still don't think you get it.
If you think the media can corner the president into doing anything you haven't been paying attention.
A little reminder about H1N1 (swiped from QRV) :
Here's the CDC Data -- https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/2009-h1n1-pandemic.html
From the report - The 2009 H1N1 Pandemic: A New Flu Virus Emerges The (H1N1)pdm09 virus was very different from H1N1 viruses that were circulating at the time of the pandemic.
Fatality rate .02%. I think that was the initial scare with this one that the rate was 2.00% or higher.
What I don't get is that there are currently 64 serious cases in the US. At what cost to the economy justifies this?
2% of known (serious) cases.
People do not go to the doctor. If they do, that doesn’t mean they’ve even been tested.
I’d bet the number of infected is way higher and the death rate is way lower.
500,000 people died of the flu this year worldwide.
The goal is to make sure it isn't 500,000 Americans dead of CoV-2 in the next 6 months.
Or suicide
There is some bullshit going on and unless these ratfucks have a real good excuse like literally fighting aliens or some shit, they need to be strung up.
Fuckery is afoot
Torches and pitchforks time!
If he didn't have Fauci in his ear, what would he be saying?
Remember when Steve Brennan was depicted as death, and Darth Vader? We should be calling Fauci that.
What we need is medicine, and get everybody back to work.
Can't cure a virus, your body has to work it out of your system.
What about the states that have gone on to full lockdown. Saw something about California could be up to eight weeks?
This is not the flu please take this shit more seriously than some of you are
For one don't fucking call me Karen as you can clearly see my name is Mandy.
Your right. Corona virus is one of the viruses that causes the common cold.
Exactly!!! This is a media made panic...thank you to the MSM for creating this mess to hurt President Trump.
Ching Ching prague
do you know of anyone who died from the flu?
And Abortion in America, Inc has killed 200,000 +/- so far this year.
Don't see Hollyweird getting up in arms about all those lost souls
Quit your bullshit. This isn't new(s): 23 years ago...
Wuhan flu 23 years ago?!?
Hmmm, Kung flu it is.
Unless you are factoring in the exponential expansion of a novel virus where people have no immunity to it, your argument is fucking irrelevant.
At least address the situation you are in. Otherwise you are just showing everyone you can only focus on the present, and not the mathematical future.
About 30 min with questions
https://t.co/RgRIHFS2PF?amp=1
I don't consider China's data. I think Italy's numbers are valid.
Every year novel viruses. Except most of them aren't the smoking gun. But every once in a while, Mother Nature hits a jackpot. This virus attacks receptors that we are highly vulnerable to and have no defense against.
You are correct, exponential growth can not last forever. The human population is not infinite. But if it covers much of the population in a short time, it would be utter disaster. So we are buying time by restricting contact. It also teaches people how important this is. We must buy time.
The fuck is time worth if the economy collapses? This is going to lead to massive austerity and more people will die because of the solution.
You realize it's the same thing for Coronavirus right? In fact Coronavirus doesn't actually kill anyone, it's symptom related deaths
Sort of - It depends on a ton of factors. It can absolutely kill a person, especially over 60, all by itself.
The technical explanation is here: https://youtu.be/PWzbArPgo-o and it makes it obvious why testing for this is a real challenge. I watched this and the subsequent one on treatment, too.
Very informative.
International deaths. It could be a high number tbh but the regardless it absolutely dwarfs what we have going on here.
Worldwide ASSHOLE
WORLDWIDE
The USA has appox 1/15 th of the world's population. So 36,000 times 15 is 540,000.
Simple math is why.
Haven't started closing anything in GA really.
7 brazzillion people died!
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm
Have faith. We'll come out better for this. This virus is the death nail for globalism.
Less than one month
That number true?
4 months
As soon as the anxiety level becomes palpable, Trump will lift the ban. Trump is measured.
April 1st is when things will either go bonkers or shit gets ramped down as cases drop.
Last Monday I set the under over to this Monday. I took the under.
5000 people were shot in one US city last year.
No one cared.
13 days.
STOP WATCHING FAKE NEWS CNN
WE HAD 300,000 HOSPITALIZATIONS DURING H1N1 AND 12,000 DEAD
NO ONE SHUT ANYTHING DOWN
Marble68 you're describing "flattening the curve."
Countries have come back from this without shutting everything down the way we're doing. You quarantine the sick, not the healthy.
I know I am. I talking why they’re doing it.
But take heart, fren.
With limited testing, our numbers look bad because of who is treated and tested.
As testing ramps up, infection number will climb; but that’s going to include new visibility.
Many people will be fine, but we could lose a very large number of people.
I believe we’ll get through this!
We'll definitely get through the health crisis. I don't think we'll have that many die, but already it's almost 3,000.
The economic and political consequences could far outweigh the health crisis.
I was just making an observation.
I’m not denying anything, or endorsing anything.
What I was trying to say is the supply chain is critical for many reasons, health, feeding the population, the economy, and more.
Supply chain and employment / gdp are all critical!
Yes they are - I still believe they didn’t think he had the balls to do what he’s done.
We're fine, fuck off with the concern trolling.
Oh? You're fine? I'm so glad you are fine. Omg I'm glad you are fine. Whew. I mean... whoa I was so worried about you.
These individual officials are making tremendous power decisions that affect the livelihood of many millions of people. I'm not okay with that unless the legislative bodies vote on these decisions.
There's no legal basis to shut down whole communities. They CAN'T vote on that.
