Civilian workers all across America are losing their jobs, Businesses are shutting down, People are losing their 401Ks. People are being told to shelter in place because it's too dangerous to be outside. The gears of the American economy has come to a screeching halt. Yet, not one mention of a Furlough of a single government agency. Furloughs are the tools government uses to reduce its workforce in dire times such as this. Not one Federal, State, or local government worker will lose one single dollar or sacrifice their family's lifestyle or comfort while private Americans are paying the price. Ask your representative why there are no furloughs being considered to reduce non essential government workers.

The schools are empty and the teachers continue to be paid.

Damn Cuz! Get with the Program.
Are we really supposed to think that putting more people out of work is supposed to be helpful? Most government employees are regular people just like the rest of us. They aren't political appointments they are air traffic controllers, border patrol, food inspectors, etc.
I hate all this shutdown bullshit but it's absolutely asinine to think that because it's ruining some people's lives we should get revenge on the government by intentionally going out and ruining more normal Americans lives.
Agree. Plus, I know a bunch of government workers that are working from home at all levels of government (local, county, state, and federal)
ALL government employees can only receive a paycheck when the rest of America works and pays their taxes. Even the smallest low paying job held by a lowly citizen goes to pay a government employee wages and benefits undreamed of by the rest of us. Here we go again, the rules apply to thee, but not for me.
You're proposing cutting off the lower levels to spite the heads. What, is that supposed to help? If we're mad at the heads of these agencies then go after the heads! Cut off the legs and keep the heads, and those heads will just fill those places right back in and in the end everything stays the same. Besides, I still haven't heard how any of these people getting furloughed would benefit a recovery or benefit putting an end to all this madness.
Really, "undreamed by the rest of us"? You can't even dream of being better than a government employee? I'm sorry, be an American and pull yourself up to greater things. No one else is going to do that for you.
"You're proposing cutting off the lower levels to spite the heads"
Excuse me? Where in my post did I say what level of government employee should be furloughed?
"I still haven't heard how any of these people getting furloughed would benefit a recovery or benefit putting an end to all this madness"
You can say the same thing for ANY American in private industry who has lost their job because a government official determined their job was not important enough. Same goes with small business owners who have lost their livelihoods because a government official told them to shut down.
"undreamed by the rest of us" should have been "undreamed by most employees in the private sector." (I used to be a federal employee, I know what the scam is) .
You are right, you did not propose what levels should be sent home. We should go after the heads of any of these defiant or useless agencies. I think we have to be a bit careful though. This whole madness is being fed by media-induced panic and I don't see headlines of "Trump shutting down all the federal agencies in midst of crisis" doing anything to put an end to it. I get the impression he is getting fed up with Fauci for example, but firing him now right in the middle of this would just make things worse. We elected a President to clean all of this up and he's doing that, but if we hope to get him re-elected and get a worthy successor in office in 2024 (and beyond) it has to be done with careful precision.
I hate all of these business shutdowns. I let my state and local officials know that such measures taken in my areas are totally unacceptable and that I will remember when the election comes. Although I suppose for most of my representation it will have to be in the primaries as I can't let the much worse Dems get hold. If they tell me to not leave my house I'm going outside for some fresh air anyway and they can just open fire.
I like "undreamed by most employees in the private sector" much better. The whole us and them thing just sets off leftist and socialist red flags for me and that gets met with immediate bitterness.
We're all with you, we want this swamp gone! Let's just take care to make sure not to forego precision and strategy. The roots of these weeds grow deep and if we yank too hard we will just pull off the tops.
A lot of govt employees can telecommute.
