So I looked up "bedroom tax," and it's when they cut your benefits because you refuse to downsize homes to fit your family so they stop financing your capture of empty space. Which, from what I've seen in Europe, sounds like it'll be older folks with empty nests refusing to give up the old family house. But I thought they didn't like subsidizing the wealthy: who did they think they were talking about, business owners? In Europe? lol And weren't they just hoping these people would die so they could redo the Brexit vote without them? Just not giving them extra money seems relatively benign comparatively...
... Why don't they like this? I'm confused. Like legitimately confused: if there's a Britpede with a good explanation on the politics around this I'm very curious.
Wait... Then what is their line about the housing prices now?
My British buddy--also a lefty--actually blamed selfish old people keeping their homes as to why he had to leave his hometown and eventually ended up in the US. From what I gather the situation was two-fold: the older generation wanting to keep their homes and neighborhoods in tact stifling development, and what little new development was allowed got eaten up by immigrants who qualified for subsidies thus inflating the price of real estate even further. Of course, one of these shall not be spoken, so he blamed old people.
Am I thinking things through farther than lefties over there are willing to? I know they got rekt recently so are probably pretty disorganized, but they have to have some kind of explanation for the housing crisis, right?
Seem to me that all western large cities are hotbeds for ill-educated morons who all have more attitude than intelligence.
it manifests itself in green/social justice crap, unburdened with the intelligence to actually think through any of these positions, they blindly scream at the world they are right and have the moral high ground.
I am so shocked by this post as everything else is 100% Trump and Boris bashing.
Of course he still only sees the MSM filter with regards to Trump since he lives in the UK, but watching Boris's daily briefings with his own eyes seems to be having the effect of burning through the MSM spin.
They all think only socialism cares about citizens, it's sickening.
You know who were two of the archest proponents of income protections for the poor ?
Milton Friedman
The number of people on welfare has been skyrocketing. Why? Because once they get on welfare, we make it almost impossible for them to get off. In order for somebody who gets on to get off, he or she has to be able to have a really good job, because to get off gradually, to earn a little bit, now doesn’t pay.
The proposal for a negative income tax is a proposal to help poor people by giving them money, which is what they need, rather than as now, by requiring them to come before a government official to tally all their assets and liabilities and be told that you may spend X dollars on rent, Y dollars on food, etc.
Friedrich Hayek:
Although our modern socialists' promise of greater freedom is genuine and sincere, in recent years observer after observer has been impressed by the unforeseen consequences of socialism, the extraordinary similarity in many respects of the conditions under "communism" and "fascism".
There is no reason why, in a society which has reached the general level of wealth ours has, the first kind of security should not be guaranteed to all without endangering general freedom; that is: some minimum of food, shelter and clothing, sufficient to preserve health. Nor is there any reason why the state should not help to organize a comprehensive system of social insurance in providing for those common hazards of life against which few can make adequate provision.

It'll be because of the usual media spin, playing on peoples emotions and we all know how emotional and easily manipulated people like my friend are.
Print pictures of people with sad faces and say how they've lived in the house for 40 years and raised 10 kids there etc etc
