It really depends, the current estimate is 6 to 18 months. Dude at a certain point, we aren't coming back as a civilization. Just cut our losses and try to preserve the memory of a place worth living in.
I hope you're joking. That kind of mindset leads to needless death, wasted resources, and anarchy. If you are serious, you not being willing to fight tooth and nail to for the liberty you say you value (and have enjoyed up until this moment) so that others can experience it speaks volumes.
"Cutting losses" isn't something you should say so lightly especially when it deals with people's lives. You sound like a CEO who doesn't realize those in his employ are actually people with families, beliefs, and aspirations. But instead looks at them like souless gears part of a machine.
Would you risk the life of 1 member of your family when you are a family of 5? The goal is crossing a strong river when you have only 4 emergency ropes, on the other side is plentiful woods and pastures.
What if the alternative is you all stay locked in a room forever, and you can no longer go out for farming. So you subsist on potatoes grown in the basement and hope it has all nutritional content.
If you choose the 2nd option you will be so starved they cannot attempt the 1st option.
I see what you're saying but this situation isn't as simple as that, there are a lot more options than just two and those options change on a day to day basis. If it was up to me I would be that 1 family member to stay behind, but I guarantee you that all 5 of us would exhaust all our resources and ideas before leaving someone behind.
If need be 3 of us would group up and carry that 1 across the river.
You give up to easily and default to an ideology that essentially takes the easy way out by cutting who you deem nonessential or not worth saving without exhausting every other means. If you are sincere in your way of thinking, and you do become sick with covid19, don't visit the hospital and don't get a test. Decide to be that "1 family member" in your scenario and let doctors divert their resources to other individuals.
