Trump is beating the virus from what I’m seeing which is great news. It also appears one of the hotbeds will be the test group for the therapeutic drugs we’ve been taking about. Probably New York. They have more people infected which will increase the quality of the final results.

The question, in my mind, is whether at this point in time conducting double-blind randomized trials is ethical. If we already know or suspect certain drugs are working and patients' lives are on the line, is it ethical to conduct a trial in which the outcome for the control group could potentially lead to preventable deaths?
I don't see that happening outside of large cities, if only for the fact that people in smaller, less dense areas can't be policed as effectively. Or really need to be relative to dense populations. There weren't any confirmed cases where I live until this past week.

The two drugs in question are already FDA approved. They each have side effects, but serious complications are apparently rare, at least for short-term use.
In the US, physicians are free to prescribe medications for "off-label use", using their own judgement. There are a lot of generic meds that are prescribed for off-label use.
Side effects are limited to long term use, like daily for YEARS. We're talking 14 days in this application, with the result of recovering in 4-6 days vs dying a horrible death even if you're on a respirator.
If we can't get enough maybe we should limit its use to those severe cases, but this stuff is widely available.
