I might be able to help on some level. I work at a major hospital in a major city. We had a guy present for a routine visit, however he had shortness of breath, a major symptom of coronavirus. He was told to go home and wait it out. My colleague and I broke procedure and insisted he be evaluated at the ER (we got yelled at by our boss but so what). Turns out he had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung) that could have been fatal at any minute. It was scary how close he came to being written off as having the virus and sent home. So the benefit of testing as far as I can see is for all the people with both chronic and acute conditions who might be assumed to have the virus and actually do not. Ruling out the virus would assist medical professionals in treating the many, many other conditions people are dealing with. People are so blinded by this virus that they forget there are other illnesses going on that are essentially being ignored with potentially fatal consequences.
TLDR: testing can help with ruling out the virus so other potentially fatal illnesses can be diagnosed and treated.
I can dig that. I would've had a fucking field day on my boss after winning that one. Take off the g-d blinders. When such a teeny tiny percentage of our population allegedly has this virus, why would we not be looking for other things, like a pulmonary embolism, while scratching the surface, instead of being laser focused on China Virus?? Scary.
