He doesn't need to, but having them there thwarts media accusations that he's inept, he's not an expert, he's making it all up. Instead he is trotting out not only his own people but lifelong swamp dwellers who are supporting him too, and he has downplayed himself by not using the Presidential seal.

And the CEO is well-placed to "reframe" the technical arguments into business and/or political arguments...

The last one I saw before Trump left to consult with congress about the stimulus bill I saw him waving to the press to say thanks. It just seemed to me like he wants to reassure the press that he is still on their side. That's just then imppression I got.
We have a health and economic crisis. President Trump is responsible for both and the people need to hear directly from him and he can decide who else should be keeping the public informed in the press conference. Fake news knows that his job approval rating is improving and will continue to do so. The only thing they can do is to keep being asses at his press events and try to shut him down. They are the enemy of the people.

ironically, leftists argue the importance of "science" yet have this religious-like worship of any scientists that the media deems a genius. fauci may be smart and experienced, but i'm certain there are hundreds of people around him who are just as important!
The media is pushing a narrative that the public is craving a leader to get us through this. That leader is Dr. Fauci. They did an entire montage of presidents from FDR to Reagan of all people and conveniently left our Trump. That's the narrative they are building, Trump is no FDR or Reagan..
