The voice of reason gets downvoted here as usual.

And that 349 is with very LIBERAL attribution as to the cause of death. When an elderly patient passes away with 3+ comorbidities, then it's up to the data cruncher's agenda to determine cause.

One of my co-workers said his mother (89) died from Coronavirus in Pennsylvania but she was never tested for it and there was no autopsy. She had been in and out of hospitals with pneumonia over the last year and was on dialysis. So no testing but somehow she was included in the COVID-19 deaths? It's an agenda.

Exactly this. The democrats and the media are excited when more businesses close and more people are laid off in CA. We are now held hostage in our own homes. Everyone I know wants to take their chances and work again. They can't pay bills, they can't buy groceries, and they can't function normally. We're afraid they're going to stretch this out until the election to hurt President Trump.

We're afraid they're going to stretch this out until the election to hurt President Trump.

That's the real problem. We have 7 or 8 more days to go, and CA turned all of its college students loose this week. The kiddies, thinking they are invincible, have been acting like they are on spring break, so the governor issued a "shelter in place" order. The same was true for Florida.

And, I just hope this story about New York is either highly isolated or made-up nonsense, because if it is not, the eastern seaboard is in real trouble.

The way to get past this mess as soon as possible is to co-operate with the quarantine long enough so that we can tell who is sick, who is not, and who is iffy. Without that information, we are stuck with a general quarantine, and the statistics for an epidemic are merciless.

Stop. Comparing to flu is wrong because flu had time to get established. Wuhan virus will reach and probably kill more people, period. And it will hospitalize many more, which is the bigger problem.

By all means encourage people not to panic. This isn't the way to do it.

China Virus has been on the planet since December, total cases is what 200 or 250k? That's around 4 months of spread. If you ignore China's numbers completely, then what's the total cases, under 200k worldwide since January? LOL.

If you say it is exponential growth then you need to supply a time variable that you know it is growing by, otherwise you're just making shit up and spewing leftist talking points.

How do you know it will infect more people? How do you know it will kill more people? What are you basing these assumptions on? How do you know it will hospitalize more, given that current data shows only like 10% of the people need ICU care?

Why do you people who keep spewing these same talking points keep saying "period!" ? You sound exactly like a leftist shill.

First it's been spreading since November, not December. China covered it up for weeks and they're still lying about their numbers.

The numbers we can trust are all in Wuhan virus's favor when it comes to transmission: long life on surfaces and in the air, long incubation. We know for a fact its rate of transmission is higher than flu. The only reason this hasn't outpaced the flu already is that aggressive measures were taken to control it once China and the WHO admitted they had a problem, but those measures are both too much and not enough.

This will definitely reach further than the flu, so numerical comparisons at this point in the life cycle to downplay the virus are foolish. Obviously we should not panic, and should look to embrace solutions like chloroquine to save lives and get us up and running again ASAP. But it's wrong to say it isn't as bad as the flu.

These are all sentiments and aren't reflective of DATA. Italian deaths are padded with people that were already dying so they can't even be sure they are reporting covid 19 deaths. The rest of europe is reporting deaths directly attributed to the virus, and so is South Korea. These places are reporting death rates consistent with flu, perhaps slightly higher. Rate of infection can be as high as you want it, but when the vast majority of infectees don't even realize they have it because it's so mild, and only very few people need ICU level care, then there's no reason to shut down the economy.

We handle something like 500,000 to 900,000 flu-related hospitalizations every flu season according to I think the CDC. There aren't even that many cases of china virus on the entire planet yet. H1N1 caused more hospitalizations in just the US than there are china virus CASES on the whole PLANET.

So if your argument is that it will overrun hospitals, then this is provably false by looking at total cases worldwide since January.

You don't destroy economies over guesswork. This was politicized and media sensationalized.

Oh I agree it was politicized and sensationalized. But the impact on the healthcare industry has already been much, much harder than for flu in places where this disease got a foothold. I think the lockdowns have been rather extreme, and we certainly can't let them go on very long.

You are an idiot, full stop. The coronavirus has been in the US a matter of weeks, and you try comparing it to the annual flu figure. The corona virus is far more lethal than the flu when looking at the overall Case Fatality Rate, and people spreading Facebook facts, from Instagram idiots are o ly making it worse. Do you think the President is giving daily briefings for fun, he like all those around him know exactly how serious this is.

Thats because Corona is only just getting established in the community. It is far more lethal than the flu, without severe efforts to limit its spread its estimated it will kill 360 million worldwide. That you think all these governments around ths world are just panicing without reason is mindblowing. This the greatest health crisis in a century and no-one living today has any experience in the kind of impact this will have. It hasnt even really got started yet. It will come in waves and last until a vaccine is finished which will be in 2021 at the earliest.
