Has anyone crunched numbers on TOTAL deaths--from all causes--in countries affected by the virus? For example, Italy has 60 million people. Apparently, in normal years, 10 people per 1,000, or one in one hundred die: https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/ITA/italy/death-rate.
That's ~600,000 per year, or ~50,000 per month, or >1,600 per day. With the recent news of an extra 700+ deaths per day, I would expect total deaths per day to be well over 2,000 and almost 2,500. I wonder how we can get this information, and then overlay the same methodology onto Spain, UK, WA, NY, CA, FL, etc.
If they die from corona, it just means a different virus or disease didn’t kill them. Numbers should be similar, but cause should be different.
Right, so why the draconian response, roll-back of civil liberties, and destruction of the global economy for people who were going to die anyway?
No, because without helping tamp down the situation of transmission these numbers would absolutely be higher. Possibly much, much higher.
When we become fully prepared with the necessities to fight the virus (masks, ventilators, gowns, beds, medicine etc.) we will return to the rat race and see another bump in cases. At least then we will have the capacity to handle the influx without having to halt the economic engine.
Like a few years ago, when nearly 100,000 died in Italy.....and nobody was shutting down anything?
When Trump talks about what he’s willing to do to “save just one life”, I expect he will do whatever is necessary to prevent a number like that or worse.
