Are there no laws that prohibit people/organizations that identify as journalists/news outlets to report objective news and not lie?
I understand free speech and people should be able to say whatever they want, and even tabloids that push nonsense should exist, but if you are claiming to be reporting actual news are there no restrictions?
Because the "news" today seems to have taken on a new form of sensationalism and tabloidism. They publish whatever they want and if wrong they just issue a silent correction and 99% of people never notice.
Watching Rachel Maddow, for example, she is pretty much the Alex Jones of news for the left. She's done nothing the last 3 years but push conspiracy theories that continually get proven wrong over time. (At least Alex has been right some.)
No. Never. If this happens the "truth" is determined by the left just like fact checking on YouTube and facebook. It's all bullshit who is going to be the end all arbiter on what is true? Fuck this impulse. Fuck it hard.
nOkx, there were laws about this, past tense. I can tell you it was better then. Not perfect, but incredibly better than it is now. They weren't removed all at once. The first one I really noticed after the change was Rush Limbaugh. I never paid attention to politics before him, and greatly enjoyed seeing him get his medal.
Some people here are knowledgeable about what these laws were called, when they were rescinded, and I expect maybe more details too. It pains me to see people that are obviously too young to have any experience with it opine that we can't reign this in. Of course we can! And we should be able to make it better than ever. If we can do that without a Civil War, so much the better.
