What I hate about our unemployment system is for a lot of people it discourages going to work in a job like this if you lost a better one. About 15 years ago, I got fired by my boss who went nuts. I had a connection at a grocery store that could get me something there and they offered me a job on the spot. Unemployment said if I take the job I'm no longer eligible for the payout from the unemployment insurance (the unemployment check would have been about 50% more). They won't let me just make up the difference or whatever it's all or nothing.
I ended up taking the job as my former employer nutjob said I was fired with cause. He was full of shit and I won the case but it took them a month to sort it all out and I wasn't going to get anything in the meantime.
I just find it ridiculous that our system discourages work.
