The media is now in an impossible position. They either acknowledge Trump's leadership to develop this cure, or they admit that they overhyped the danger, and it wasn't that big of a deal.

If it's solved in the relative short term, this will be HUGE for Trump. First, he'll be largely credited for solving the problem and getting everyone back to work. If he can accomplish this before more of the jobs are gone, even better. Second, we now have the proper motivation to bring the manufacturing of essential products back to the US, so we're not dependent on China, or anywhere else in case of another similar emergency. That will boost the economy and create a lot of jobs in the short term to help fill in any employment gaps that developed as a result of the temporary shutdowns. Better yet, if it happens soon enough, the stimulus packages currently getting stalled in Congress might ultimately not be necessary.
I still think it was/is pretty threatening—keep seeing cases of otherwise healthy 20s-30s year-olds who are winding up in the ICU from this. The freakiest thing about this virus seems to be that there's really no telling how your immune system is going to react to it; in the past the general assumption was always that if you were young and healthy, you could fight off sickness. It's a little unsettling that that's apparently not the case, with this.
All that said, this drug looks very promising and it's so obvious that the MSM/Dems want this crisis to continue, rather than be solved.
This is the "novel" part of the novel coronavirus. No human has any innate immunity to it. If the reports of people recovering, then getting it again, and also having a worse time of it on their repeat bout(s) are true, then that contradicts fundamental thinking in medicine.
It could be those reports are just wrong due to false negative and/or false positives which is always possible but even more likely because lots of testing attempts have had problems. That would simplify this thing greatly.
Hopefully the new tests they're about to roll-out are pretty reliable.

I have close to 0 hope that a vaccine will be that effective. The virus will evolve quicker than we can develop a vaccine. It's possible that the vaccine will still be somewhat effective on the mutated form, but that effectiveness is likely to be reduced. Perhaps not effective at all for some people.

there is no use trying to "prevent" for the entire population. A bigger chunk than anyone even realizes is already immune because THEY ALREADY HAD IT and thought it was a regular flu. I do not in the slightest buy that it just appeared in December in China. No way. It's been going around and China stayed silent about it for months. It was here in December, I guarantee it. My kid for example, had a nasty fever in December, it was really high. So much so we took him to his doctor and they tested for strep and influenza. Tests came back negative for both and his doc said "we're going to treat this like the flu" and he recovered in a week.
As far as it being a preventative, are we talking preventative as in it prevents your symptoms from getting worse, if you start taking it as soon as you have an inkling that you may be sick? Or as in, even healthy people should be pumping these pills across the board until the crisis has resolved?

They just started using it a few days ago and I can’t pull up a patients charts days after I had the patient to see how they are doing but I will know by the end of the week how effective it is.

That's not exactly correct. We don't know what would have happened had he not been given the drug. It's unlikely, but he could have miraculously improved for any other reason. That's why we do clinical trials to actually understand whether or not drugs work. Simple before-after comparisons are not sufficient evidence. I really hope this drug is everything we are touting it to be, but as a researcher I am biased towards null results until proven otherwise.We will know for sure soon!!!

But a lot more people survive this disease than die from it--especially at his age, so I am not sure that we have a pretty good idea what would have happened without it. That said, I totally agree that it should be used in situations like these-- remember it is already approved for off-label use and is an option for patients if they request it. I will wait for the results of trials before I argue it should be the default pharmacological intervention.

I'm saying big pharma, a profit driven medical industry, doesn't like cheap, effective cures to a virus that keeps people dependent on their system. This article proves it by how much this guy had to fight the doctors to give him this medicine.
He could barely breathe while the doctors are giving him "all the reasons why [he] would probably not want to try it because there are no trials, there’s no testing, it was not something that was approved"
Without the medicine, his body would not have been healthy enough to fight the virus. They were trying to say the medicine had nothing to do with his recovery, even though it obviously helped.
I am a doctor myself who did over 15 years of immunology research and I can tell you right here that most doctors have no clue when it comes to research and are very close minded when it comes to new, experimental approaches; not because they are 'careful', 'conservative' or act 'in the best interest of their patients', but because most are lemmings with no vision and courage and only became doctors because they are good at memorizing textbooks, work long hours and kiss the butts of their superiors. I don't even consider them much above average intelligent. Most are spineless creatures who would rather see a patient die than take some risk and try something new like in this case. Fauci seems to be another one of them.

This medicine (malaria drug) has existed and been tested for decades. Blind (placebo) studies were done of it in France on China virus. Its patent is no longer active, so you can get it for very cheaply. Of course Big Pharma and their salespeople (doctors) will often not offer a cheaper product, it is against their financial interest!
All valid points, but please realize that study in France doesn't count as a clinical trial for purposes of FDA approval. It had 36 subjects.
I've read through all studies completed as of 3/10. About 30 of them. Most are about 100 subjects which still isn't very statistically significant for something like this. None of them are very good. None of them were double blind. None of them reported any deaths or side effects.
I want me some HCQ as a preventative! Before I return to work. I'd be exposed more than most, not as much as the healthcare profession. I hope they're covered in PPE head to toe with preventative medicine to boot.

Elon Musk (and other scientists) were tweeting about HCQ+A 7 days ago (or more probably).
They pointed to a study (albeit small) showing that HCQ+A was highly effective.
It seemed to me that this crisis was about to end.
The various countries have enacted "draconian measures" involving strict lock downs and talk of closing all non essential businesses for months on end.
If we do have the medication to treat and prevent C-19 why do we need these strict lock downs which will cause an economic collapse.
Also, is it only me that thinks that if all non essential businesses close for 6, 12, 18 months, that essentially those nations economies have effectively died and upon restart the new economy will be a dictatorship of sorts, or certainly not a free market.
Seems to me that unless we do have a cure that several countries are going to be ending capitalism and becoming I guess socialist nations over the course of several months.
Just give it to every single person tested positive and reopen the country, end of story.
