TL;DR: He's saying that so long as the pandemic continues, America must be in effectively an induced coma and that Americans must accept the "sober truth" that they must suffer for as long as they have to in order to defeat the pandemic.

Problem is...is the cure worse than the disease, if not creating a self-fulfilling prophecy?
