There's no reason a politician should be making that much. Frankly there should be no monetary incentive to be an elected representative. That's how it was in the beginning. People had "day jobs" and only showed up in Washington for a few weeks out of the year to deliberate and pass laws. They got some money and travel expenses and all that but it wasn't enough to live off of. You went back to your business, farm, medical practice or lawyer practice the rest of the year.
If you need an example, compare Texas and California.
Texas has a "part time" legislature that meets for a set period of time, once every two years. The members get a stipend during the session, and go home to their real jobs after.
California has a full time, well paid legislature. They work year round coming up with more and more bullshit laws.
Which state actually works better? Which state encourages freeloading? From which state are companies fleeing in droves? Which state is gaining new businesses and people?
So far, we've been able to assimilate Texas n00bs pretty well.
Tons of yankees moved down during the 70s and 80s. There were bumper stickers that said "❤NY? Take I30 East" and "We don't care how you did it back east!"
They got the message and assimilated.
These new folks will get the message pretty quick.
Quick math but if they would live modestly like most lower/middle class Americans they would be fucking loaded after a few years. Yeah, think we're paying these asshats a bit much to play communist revolution.
It's chump change for them. You would think they would have realized the points they could have scored by forgoing a salary during this time. But because it's chump change, it never crossed their mind.
These twatwaffles actually included a pay raise for themselves in the relief bill.
These Blue Waffles actually included a pay raise for themselves in the relief bill.
Their paycheck is just walking around money to a lot of them anyway.
This is what needs to stop. The slush funds and kickbacks.
I guarantee you not one of these knob goblins will be missing any meals. Especially Nadler, who hasn't been able to see his nads in decades.

"Politician" should not be a career choice.

New businesses and people that are going to destroy it by voting for the same shit they fled like a plague.

Their pay is tax-free.
Also not to mention none of their salary has to go to living expenses. All their living expenses are covered, including food.
Imagine getting a 200k BONUS every year.
If they wanted a surefire re-election, they could learn from Trump and donate as much of their salary as they could afford.
That's a great idea. I think a coordinated and effort to donate to hospitals, food banks, etc. would do a lot of good right now.
Or newscaster.
Two words: TERM LIMITS.
