Well, it's working pretty well. Worst Korea and Japan have something very important in their culture: DISCIPLINE.

We kinda lack that in comparison. For example, I watched a live cam of Tokyo today. Within 1 minute I saw a guy bring trash out, then sweep up a few items of debris on the sidewalk. I can't remember when I ever saw that here.

They have their disadvantages, but they're amazing people.

And after/during Fukushima, they waited in line for relief. Orderly, despite that fact their houses and friends were just killed. I heard, but never learned, they they have a word to describe "shit happens", meaning it is a part of life and the best way through it is civil behavior. They also drink like champs and their lady folk have sideways vaginas.

Makes me think if they say the death rate is 1% among people tested, imagine what the real death rate is including people who have it but no one knows. Probably less than .1

Probably pretty close to the flu. Which means this was all pointless.

I'm an American living in S.Korea for the past decade. Koreans are inherently hypochondriacs. The minute the wu-flu hit they wanted all Chinese students and tourist locked down. They wear surgical mask already, so that wasn't new. Korea did temperature testing and "drive thru" testing... really it was more of a walk up test. Schools extended the winter break, gyms closes, restaurants closed, public places shut down...anyway, Korea, pretty much, self-quarantined... the testing was good and all, but the self-quarantine is the real reason Korea hasn't had a massive breakout of the Kung-flu. We'll have about another week or two of being careful and we'll be back to normal... seeing more and more people not wearing surgical masks... As far as America, looks like you're going to follow the Korean model... so don't be surprised if the want people to stay home for a few weeks... they slow-rolled the self-quarantine here too... as far as the massive amount of US we-flu testing... pretty bad-ass!

How many need hospitalized, how many survive plus how many in the community that have been tested and rate of positives.

All the data is important to make policy.

The other important factor is the permanent damage this virus can cause. ACE2 receptors are everywhere in your body.

We need to roll this treatment out fast. I still think people are underplaying the damage this virus can cause. You might survive, but not unscathed. It totally fucked up a 31 year old ex-Olympic swimmer. Can't even walk too far without needing to catch their breath. AFTER they 'recovered'.

Since RNA viruses can mutate quickly (like the flu) it means these people can be hit again, and they'll be weaker next time. We've got to roll the treatment out and stomp this shit into the ground ASAP.

If you have enough express testing, you can isolate just the sick people instead of preventing the 99% of healthy people interacting with the other 99% of healthy people and shutting down the economy.

Rapid thorough testing of everyone is what is going to get us out of this situation.

Realize that while we might be corrupt, we do tend to be honest with our faults. American will complain about all our problems and analyze and talk endlessly about our issues. Other counties have the habit of hiding there problems and talk up their achievements. So the South Koreans are the testing kings, and we are a testing fools (according to the media). And while that was the case (because of corrupt and laze CDC), the President push those idiots aside and let all the great private companies in the country take over the job, and guess what, we are off the moon in testing. We always do this as nation, every war, every problem, it just takes some time to kick out the idiots and let businesses get to work.

Yes, Trump did what he does best: clear roadblocks out of the way.

The increased throughput in tests is thanks to private labs like LabCorp and Quest.

And lab equipment manufacturers like Roche and Cepheid. Roche lowered the test time to 4 hours, and can do 1,000 to 4,000 tests per day, depending on the model.

Cepheid lowered it to 45 minutes, using the thousands of smaller machines already installed in clinics and even doctor's offices.

They didn't have to be ordered to do it. They just got it done, and the normally glacial FDA moved quickly to approve it. Roche is already operating, and Cepheid expects to start shipping the cartridges with the reagents by the end of this month.

More tests per capita or just more tests?
