I'm still working. There's literally only semis on the road when I leave for work. THANK YOU TRUCK DRIVERS! You're the backbone of this great country.

My friend is a trucker. I wouldn't say all the risk is absolved. He's finding a LOT more drunks on the road than usual.

25
travistd6789 25 points ago +25 / -0

Absolutely! Truckers are keeping this country going, now more than ever. Rioting in the streets without them.

16
PolarBears4Trump2020 16 points ago +17 / -1

Hell yeah! Truckers are getting it done!

Crossing NM and AZ tomorrow on my way to Southern Commiefornia with 22 tons of candy bars. Not sure if that really qualifies as emergency supplies, but I suppose it's easily digestible food.

Man, this pandemic crap is annoying but damn is traffic good.

22
Censorddit 22 points ago +22 / -0

Going to start trucking again.

Gotta keep wife and kids at home. And home schooled.

I hope they never lift this quarantine. I love how fucking everyone fucked off.

Theres like 5 people infected with the flu. Everyone hides. GLORIOUS

2
Pedutoisacuck 2 points ago +3 / -1

I feel you. Very light traffic in a major city, grocery store is next to empty and apart from toilet paper (of course) and dish soap they are BETTER stocked than on a typical day. Part of me is also enjoying this farce.

1
hai_Priesty 1 point ago +1 / -0

Gotta thank you for keeping the stores shelved (as much as possible from the panicky people clearing toilet paper, one of the dumbest thing to stock pile when ppl can improvise pretty much any alternatives when TP runs out, only problem is just that it's annoying).

-2
Razeontherock -2 points ago +2 / -4

Actually 55,000. 1,100 per State on average. I really didn't think it would get this bad. Deaths are decreasing and recoveries are increasing!

4
catatonic_frog [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

thats worldwide, under 50k in the us total iirc

1
Razeontherock 1 point ago +1 / -0

I added an extra 0. Now fixed. Almost 55k US cases. I didn't expect it to get this bad.

Thanks. Corrected.

2
Censorddit 2 points ago +2 / -0

So like 5 people. Got it. 🙄

0
Razeontherock 0 points ago +1 / -1

How do you turn 55,000 into 5?

5 would've been too many. POTUS has control over immigration policy for exactly this reason. He shut down travel from China immediately, which was the right thing to do. I don't really know if it was contested, if they overruled his attempt to shut down travel from Iran in response to this or exactly how that all played out.

Clearly, if it weren't for the resist movement, all incoming planes would have been quarantined and we wouldn't have nearly so many people contributing to community spread. Even so, the 7 million people who fled Wuhan are more culpable, and the CCP moreso yet for lying to the world about it.

Most Counties in my whole region report 0 people tested positive. Lots have 1-4. Even Illinois has only 3 counties with lots of infections and most of their Counties have 0. Lots there report only 1-4. No way of knowing how many of these Counties reporting low numbers actually have lots of infected people, just nobody's been tested. This stuff apparently isn't easy to test for, as lots of attempts have failed.

Good luck keeping you and yours safe! "Wife and kids at home," while the man of the house goes and works is very much what this Country was built on. Hopefully we'll get back to wholesome old fashioned values through this crisis. It can't stay like this, and there will be "a new normal."

I have never seen my Costco this empty before. They didn't have toilet paper or hand sanitizer, but everything else was well stocked. Walked straight up to the checkout. Plexiglass was installed to shield customer and cashier from each other.

4
Drinkup4 4 points ago +4 / -0

Did the US just stop manufacturing toilet paper? I don't see how everyplace can always be out. I've been to stores more than once when they open.

I've noticed that. Combined with cheap gas prices I'm considering breaking out the summer car and driving aimlessly. Technically not breaking any kinda quarantine if I'm not leaving the car...

3
Razeontherock 3 points ago +3 / -0

Correct! Futures on gasoline was down to 50 cents today, lol. Good time for a roadtrip! (Or a plane trip)

2
hai_Priesty 2 points ago +2 / -0

I happen to have a job that can work from anywhere for most of the week and I've parked myself 4 times over one week in empty restaurants (and discounted due to lack of business) and beautiful balconies and enjoying the tropical breeze (Asian here) ALONE IN THE RESTAURANT where panicky people stopped going altogether.

That empty restaurant with no one within my 50 feet radius and garden along the expressway at the back, it probably serves a better quarantine that even my own home.

SHINY AND CHROME!

Reminds me of the time back in the 00s when President Bush came to visit Wiesbaden Army Airfield in Germany.
Some of us doing direct support knew about it a couple of months in advance but kept our mouths shut about it, just got things done to support it.
The Polizei shut down the A66 autobahn pretty much from Frankfurt to a little past Wiesbaden except for authorized vehicles.
I was authorized and had a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 w/S3 turbo kit at the time.
I hit 160mph in that damn souped-up Neon with no one else on the road but me with the hazard lights flashing.
It was a low-slung black blur flying past Polizei cars blocking off the exit and entrance ramps all the way to the airfield.
It was glorious!

HEXEN 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's crazy, roads were so peaceful when I got off yesterday, how chips are a "essential business" is beyond me but I'm grateful as hell to keep working and we all get a bonus on days we work for the next 4 weeks.

Here is something I am debating…

I am considering going for a drive just to get out of the house and clear my mind. I will be by myself and will not stop to run any errands. I will not come in contact with anybody.

Am I breaking quarantine?

0
aangler100 0 points ago +1 / -1

No

2
ThatOrcTsadok 2 points ago +2 / -0

my security job is an essential service and I have the entire job site to myself for my 12 hour shifts where I'm in presence only mode and have caught up on all the podcasts I've missed from 4 years working in a manager position that made me want to grab the hope rope after every shift.

turns out all the low paying jobs, all the jobs that those dastardly deplorables have, everything that was beneath the ivory tower liberals are pretty fucking important ACKSHUALLY

2
Mint 2 points ago +2 / -0

As much as I feel bad for people who are out of work and people who are at significant risk of infection, the quarantine has had quite a few upsides!

2
MehNahMehNah 2 points ago +2 / -0

Apparently I'm 'essential' and on the road.. gas prices make it tolerable, the mornings are worktrucks full of ladders and toolboxes, the ride home are those small business owners and like everyone else is saying - trucks. After the quarantine is lifted and infection rates are past peak the economy is going to ricochet back so hard it may sting a little. In a good way.
