My wife developed a very intense cough and sore throat and is running a fever in the last 2 days. After consulting her doctor on the phone, they recommended she go to a clinic to get the test. She went first thing this morning and they refused to let her take it because she has ‘t personally traveled internationally or had contact with anyone that tested positive.

It’s unlikely but I guess we won’t know unless she requires admission to an ER.

It's like trying to conduct clinical trial for a mortality rate in hospice care.

The numbers are egregiously skewed.

100% intentional

This is ridiculous. They’re supposed to have 27 million test kits by the end of March. There aren’t 27 million people who have traveled internationally, so they need to change the testing guidelines and open it up. Maybe try a different facility if you can find one.

My understanding is the test kits are just supplies. It still takes people with PPE to take your sample. Then it takes people at the lab to process the sample, let it grow, process that and record the results. The quick test (45 min) is just getting approvals now. Hopefully that gets rid of the manpower bottleneck.

I hope your wife has a speedy recovery. Is she taking any extra supplements or measures to minimize the symptoms? Let us know how she’s doing.

Oops reply in wrong place! Sorry.

No offense, but that story sounds like complete bullshit.

The way that the testing is being done in a vast majority of the country is where people are initially diagnosed over the phone like your wife was and then the doctors give people a code which they take to a testing facility. The code is presented and the test is administered.

Secondly, doctors are not suggesting that patients they think have COVID-19 to go to an open clinic. That's going to ensure that the virus is transmitted and call me crazy, but doctors don't really want that to happen.

A colleague had a fever, cough, no known exposure. Only reason he got tested was he found a state site testing first responders. His test was positive, now we are all on self quarantine. No tests for the rest of us unless we become symptomatic.
